    What are the chances

    Hello All,

What are the chances that the Hilton refunds my non-refundable stay because of the following? Sounds like they are not only doing room renovations but they have also closed one of the pools etc....and are making a good deal of noise from the reports. They did not disclose the info publicly but I will be honest I did know they were doing work because of the forums, I just did not know the extent of the work.

I am considering my options "if" they let me out of my room...thoughts? This is for my solo trip in 2 weeks.

    ummmm, i haven't a clue.
are others saying that the noise is interfering with their peace and quiet?

i think that you need to call and speak with customer service and ask the pertinent questions.

A report on TA said one pool was closed and the construction is loud...I called Hilton but they said I have to call Aruba directly. I found an 800# for them and I will contact them tomorrow to see if I have any options. If not, I will make the best of it regardless.

It probably won't affect me much unless I can hear it at 9am. I spend most of my solo days exploring during the day and they certainly wont be working at night. Its still a good excuse to move to the Ritz for my entire stay, lol.

I remember 5-6 years ago (more....?) when all the rooms were renovated and towers were closed, one at a time and blocked off.... wasn't too much of an inconvenience. Both pool areas are huge. My big concern would be if construction dust settled in my drink at Gilligan's...... then I'd be really POed...!

I'd ask what accommodations they have made? Do they have a deal with another property to use their pool during resurfacing?

Last April we were staying at the Playa Linda the very day they started ripping out the pool to renovate the pool area.

I wish I had known ahead of time. Their pool area is very near the beach and all day long we had to deal with construction equipment and noise while we tried to relax under our palapa. The jackhammer was quite annoying. I wish I had known ahead of time. I probably would have picked another date for vacation or another place. We went to relax and sit around for a week, not much off property exploring during that trip. I understand that properties need to update and renovate and there probably isn't an ideal time to do that during which some guests will be disappointed.

I am in the process of trying to cancel. I called the hotel directly and gave my case for why they should refund my money and allow me to book elsewhere. The women I spoke with says she will talk with a manager and call me back. I am not holding my breathe but it certainly would be a good move on their part. If/when they refund my cash they can be almost guaranteed I will return at some point soon and if they don't well...they get their room filled for 3 nights and never again by me.

I have respect for companies that disclose exactly what they are doing prior to doing it. If it was not for the forum nobody would have a clue about the renovations going on at the Hilton, they don't disclose it at all on their website. On the other hand if you try to book at a Marriott property they seem to disclose that ever time?

If you can't get a refund, definitely request the Curacoa tower farthest away from Gilligan's area.
Not sure when, but we will be back

I am VERY happy to report that Karen from the Hilton called me back about 30 minutes ago with excellent news. After talking to the manager they have allowed me to cancel my reservation without paying even a penny in penalty. I think it was a classy move on their part for sure. I was very calm and explained I am a loyal Aruba visitor that would be thrilled to return to the Hilton at a later date and my "niceness" was rewarded. I have since "rewarded" myself by extending my trip and staying at the Ritz the entire trip
