we always rent a townhouse but you need a car. I love the Radisson. My stepdaughter is even getting married there in October. It is beautiful, smack in the middle of the high rise area, tons of restaurants and shopping all within walking distance. I think if its your first time, you want everything within walking distance, i'd opt for the high rise area.

You can't go wrong with Bucuti. Eagle Beach is fabulous. I just got back from being there for two weeks. Some days there were no waves at all, most days there were very slight waves, and two days we had some pretty good waves. A lot of people loved the bigger waves, including my husband, who spent a lot of time in the water one day, body surfing. The kids were having a blast. Bucuti is mostly adults only, and is on the most beautiful beach, imo, in Aruba. Manchebo is next door, and has just been remodeled. The rooms at Manchebo aren't large, but they are very nice. You can walk to the casino, many newly opened shops, and a lot of restaurants. The new restaurant at Costa Linda (where we just stayed) is Water's Edge. It has a great bar, very good food, and serves from the bar menu and the restaurant menu at night. Another new restaurant is Ike's Bistro at Manchebo. We ate there on this trip and it is delicious, one of my new favorites. We love Eagle Beach because it is quiet, and we can be downtown or in Palm Beach in just a few minutes by bus or taxi.

there is MUCH within walking distance in the bucuti and eagle beach area
    including:
alhambra casino and marketplace= restaurants and bars there.
divi village/ai/tamarijn/golf= and their restaurants and bars.
cada del mar, aruba beach club, manchebo, bucuti, costa linda= and their many restaurants and bars.

i think many folks believe that the palm beach/hi rise area is the only area that has things within walking distance
there is PLENTY of walking at the lo rise area, especially around the alhambra marketplace

You may want to check with Bucuti before you book if you plan on staying there. They are supposed to be renovating starting in May. I found this on tripadvisor when I was looking about staying somewhere on my next trip in July.....We ended up booking the Riu.

Info from Bucuti re: 2013 construction

We have finally confirmed the dates of our restaurant remodeling. The Pirate's Nest will be converting into "Elements" restaurant on the beach. The work will start on May 13, and we will be closing the resort for 3 weeks. On June 1, we reopen. The new restaurant will open on August 12. In the meantime we will be serving in the Tara Lounge for breakfast, lunch and dinner. (Carte Blanche will also be available for dinner reservations). From June 1 to July 5 we offer a 35% discount to guests on our room rate and from July 6 through August 11, we will offer a 25% discount to guests. We are so sorry to disappoint the guests that were planning to stay with us during the affected dates. We do believe the enhancement will be a great one for our resort
