Definitely a personal preference, but for us, the view is not very important. Ask yourself how much time you spend on your balcony? For me its usually no more than 10-15 minutes a day. If it was more, I may consider paying more for a view. If you eat in and want to have breakfast or dinner out there, then maybe a nicer view is worth the extra cost. We don't drink coffee so sitting out there with coffee doesn't matter to us. We are usually out of the room for sunset too. In the mornings we are usually up and out pretty quickly to get to the beach.
We don't pay for a view, but usually end up with something that is nicer than looking out the window at home to this cold drab grey. In each room we have had, we could see the palm trees blowing, and the water in the far off distance. Sometimes those views have been obscured by roofs of other buildings, but that was worth the savings.
we have rented and traded into the renaissance and probably half the times our view was the parking lot/casa tua and convention ctr.
i had originally thought, no big deal....but as it turned out it was a big deal as the view was indeed pretty boring.
our fixed lacabana units are dead center facing the pool and the ocean.
views are marvelous.
then again, for the amount of time we spend in the room the view is usually a non issue.
some of our other lacabana units have views towards the amsterdam manor and others are views towards the paradise beach villas........both have some ocean view in the distance.
if the price were right for the non view i would consider a non view.
Our first week is a third floor unit facing the beach and the sunset. Second week is at ground level facing the pool. We really wanted those views when we bought. Now, I'd be happy with a parking lot view as long as the parking lot is in Aruba.
I have three weeks, only one of those has an ocean view. It was not considered full view because it is on the side of the bldg and so you weren't supposed to get a really nice full view. It was also the cheapest choice. I didn't think it mattered because we are usually on the beach or out enjoying the island so much during the day....
If I had to do it again, and price wasn't an issue I would go for a full view, but since I am not a millionaire and price IS an issue......I would go with out the view in order to get a little piece of paradise to call my own....
I agree with Andrea that staring at a parking lot can be a pain....but then again, you are staring at a parking lot in Aruba !!!!
You are all so right. A parking lot in Aruba is so much better than a parking lot in Jersey! I do spend quite a bit of time on the balcony - I am a very early riser on vacation so I like to get out of the room & let the kids & hubby sleep. I generally bring my laptop outside and go online or check email till the sun comes up or the battery dies. But I am one of those people who are still amazed by the color of the water and take the main road from the airport to the resort no matter how much traffic there is just so I can stare at the ocean
I also get up early and start the coffee, check emails and just relax on the balcony. Sometimes with a view and sometimes not....and even though the traffic can be painful going thru downtown I love to people watch, and since Im finally on my home in paradise I don't mind either....I just sit back and enjoy it.
Sounds like you have already figured it out....so, now get out your checkbook and put a downpayment on a room with a view of the parking lot !!!!!
I have stayed in oceanfront, Oceanside, oceanview and gardenview at the Surf club and for us, the view although nice, wasn't worth the extra $$. I actually sold my Oceanside (gold season) and bought a gardenview (platinum season). We are always outdoors when we are in Aruba and any time spent on the balcony, the view didn't really matter to us. Just my .02 All a matter of lifestyle, budget and preference as most all have said.
We cruise a lot and always done balcony's. Now we don't care as long as we have a window.
How much time does one spend on their balcony's while on vacation?
They money you save can add up to another vacation or a few extra drinks...
