LaCabana ... First time there, please give me your thoughts

While we are seasoned Aruba travelers we have NEVER stayed at LaCabana. We don't know the pulse of the place, the do's and don't, the secret kinda info... So I beg all of you lay your thoughts out for us on the place. Give us the good, bad and ugly. We will be there week 52. Thoughts on paLapa arrival times, , food, what to bring, what's in room .... Basically all you think we should know. We have 3 rooms and 12 of us are going.

I have no clue on beach palapa status for week 52.
Last time we stayed there in week 52, was in 2006 or 2007 and I remember that we had to go out very early to the beach to get a spot.
I have no secret kinda info
It is a great family resort...lots of kids.
    The pool bar is terrific.
The Las Tapas Restaurant gets good reviews.
    Lots of us love LaCabana.

What is the palaypa procedure? Is someone from the resort there early to monitor the situation? Is it just a free for all? Are the chairs locked overnight? If so, when do they unlock?

    good questions rob
i do not know how they do it now.
but in past years...... the lounges and chairs were locked.
the beach guys would start positioning them at about 5 am.

maybe liz or marlene can write.
i will direct them to this thread.

also too, my friends sena and louanne will be at lacabana in a week and we'll meet up with them nov 7.
i will ask them the procedure, and i can post their replies.

We are here now and I know that Bob goes down every morning around 6 to get a palapa and hasn't had a problem. The beach guys come and unlock them for you. I have heard that during the busy season, people are down there at 4 in the morning with flashlights. We go on the second row so it depends on what you want as to how early you go down. You have to have 1 person per palapa and security does come down. One lady tried to hold 5 one morning and security told her one person per palapa, needless to say, she wasn't happy and complained but they told her the rules are the rules. If you leave, security will tag your palapa and you have an hour and a half to get back or they will take your stuff. LaCabana has a great happy hour, the islander grill is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and have specials throughout the week. Las Ramblas is very good but the men say the portions are small for the price. Pizza Bob's is outside of the Tropicana along with dunkin donuts and Cinnabon is in LaCabana and they have the Glitz casino which has been very good to us. Small but good. Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions.

Although they refurbished the rooms, they still have that older feel to them but it is an older resort. We love it there. Nothing like Eagle Beach, plenty of room there. The Pata Pata bar has great live music a few time a week and a fun happy hour. Seems like there is always something going on there. We have stayed at some of the high rise resorts like the Surf but La Cabana has a nice relaxed feel to it. Hope you like it there.

I love La Cabana, but don't know of any secrets! I've never been during the winter months so I'm not sure if the procedure is different, but like others have said the chairs are locked up and there is someone on the beach ready & willing to bring what you need over to your palapa by 6am if not before.

The rooms have fully stocked kitchens with convection ovens, the bathrooms are stocked with Aruba Aloe shampoo & body wash.
