Jen, we noticed some windows had been installed also.. looks like the place is progressing at a slower than normal pace even by Aruba standards... how do you like the upgrades at the Surf club?
Walt, when were you last here? We are in the compass tower and nothing in the unit feels upgraded, it feels slightly worn but that is being very very picky and not anything someone else would feel but we think our units in this building last year were a little nicer (finish on wood type of stuff, like I said nothing actually wrong). The new kiddie splash pad that opened at the end of last year is really awesome if you have young kids with you, we haven't used it and I am not sure my kids will because they are almost 7 and 9. The new umbrellas and chairs with covers are very nice and the little store looks great but it all seems cosmetic to me and it doesn't seem like they are selling anything nicer so honestly I think that was a waste of money. Captains Galley now delivers. I have to say I am disappointed with the kids activities this week, I don't know if it is because it is off season but NJ schools are closed most of this week so there are more kids then a typical week in the fall and there are barely any kid activities-no vacation balloon buddy, no kid sports (they have all ages sports but I don't know who thinks it is a good idea for adults and kids to play ping pong together as an activity), no cupcake or cookie making, etc.
We were just there for two weeks at the end of August, first of September (serious off season). We were in the Spyglass tower. They were painting the hallways when we were there. The units looked to be recently updated, new paint, drapes, carpets, furniture, etc. Flat panel TVs in each room. We like the way they have the store laid out now, it seems to be easier to get around and they have more food products. The food bar in the store is more organized from an ordering and paying standpoint. We don't have kids that travel with us often, but we thought the splash area for the kiddies was nice. The main pool with Seaworthy's was redone as was the bar top switched from tile to granite last year. When we were there they had activities going non stop. I can't imagine why they have stopped doing things.
They have a lot of activities but not the kid-specific activities that they had when we were here in July, trip in Nov was so short we didn't notice what was going on. I love the Spyglass tower, my favorite by far. Next time we come I am going to push hard to get into it.
