Update
I would also be willing to take weeks 43 or 45 also.
Does anyone know if this time of year is very busy? We usually go in the summer time and this will be our first time in Oct/Nov. I had a few people contact me and say that although their timeshare rooms are not on the ground floor/pool that I could usually request that once I get there and get it. Does anyone know if that is a good possibility? I wouldn't want to rent a timeshare from someone and then not get the room we want once we are there. The reason I am really looking only for ground floor/pool is because this will also be our first time back with our 2 year old daughter and I think it would be much easier to be on the ground floor especially for nap time and at night. We could still sit outside and take turns jumping in the pool with our monitor right outside. Any other suggestions for traveling with a 2 year old would also be greatly appreciated. |

you may want to contact members
QLAVAL or CINDYO by private message about the ins and outs of the renaissance suites. |

If you're going during week 43 or 44 it could be possible to request and get a ground floor unit if you're lucky (50-50 chance ?). During week 45 when usually there's more people I don't think it could be done easily (10% chance ?).
Your best bet is to rent a ground unit, or if you're able to rent a larger oceanfront unit the resort would probably be more incline to exchange it for a ground unit. Also to request an exchange for a ground unit, you need to exchange an oceanview unit as well. All the oceanview units ends with an odd number. If the unit you're renting does end with a pair number(Garden or parking view...) then it simply won't happy unless you're a very very lucky person... Good luck!

Unless you rent the actual week and room owned by the owner, there will be no guarantee prior to arrival. Traded weeks get you in for the week, but do not get you the room that it was traded from.

Thank you so much for all of the help!! I am going to hold off a little longer in hopes of finding a ground floor unit and if I can't by the end of the summer I will probably just go ahead and get an ocean front room and keep my fingers crossed when I get there. What's the worse that could happen....I'm stuck in a beautiful ocean front room in Aruba, things could be worse LOL

I was able to find someone willing to rent me their ground floor unit at the Renaissance for week 44 on another Aruba forum site. Their unit number is 2146 which is an end unit facing the ocean. They said they were just going to call Aruba and confirm that I will be able to switch to a pool room, which shouldn't be a problem since their room is a little better.
Since everyone on this site has been so helpful I just wanted to see if I could get some tips on renting from someone online. These were my questions, but please let me know if I should ask anything else before sending a 50% deposit: Is there a contract? How do I make payment? Do I get a confirmation from the hotel? Thanks so much, Kristin |

you need to determine that the owner is indeed the owner.
contact the resort and ask if mr or mrs X is an owner in good standing. ask for a contract that is agreeable to both renter and owner. lots of folks ask for payment in full upon reservations. others require 50% and then final payment 90 days out. either way is common practice. there is a certain amount of "trust" that is assumed. i have been renting my timeshare units at lacabana over the years. only 2x have i been asked for a contract. i assume that my name recognition here has a lot to do with my trustworthiness (or lackthereof ).START by confirming ownership. PAYPAL is a very acceptable and preferred form of payment. if you want to private message me the person's username from the othersite, it may be someone that i know and can at least give you a "oh sure, he or she has been posting for years and yes is an owner there" Quote:

here is an example of the rental agreement that my husband and i used for a few of our rentals.
i do not know if this represents a good contract..but is the one we use nonetheless. This agreement represents an agreement to rent a unit #______ at LaCabana Resort and Beach Club. Price $____ due in full no later than ______ (date) by bank check._____________________(renter’s initial) Descriptions of unit LaCabana Resort and Beach Club, Aruba, Dutch Caribbean 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th floor 1 bedroom or studio unit with occupancy of 4. Dates of rental are ________ thru _________. Check in at LaCabana is at 4pm on ______ Check out is at Noon on _________ There is a daily room surcharge of approximately $15, which is charged to the renter’s folio. This contract when signed by Mr. and Mrs. Paul and __________ is binding and executed When the check is received and cleared, the reservation confirmation will be mailed by email and regular mail to the renters. We always advise our renters to obtain trip insurance for unexpected events that may lead to cancellation or flight delays. No refunds given. The site we use is www.insuremytrip.com ___________________ Paul _____________renter ___________________Andrea _____________ renter Date |
