Tell me about the Tropicana Resort...

Formerly known as the Aruban Resort and Casino...

First, I will say that both my girlfriend and I have been to Aruba before, (on our previous SEPARATE honeymoons! LOL) - and we were both fortunate enough to stay at the Hyatt property...

This time around we were given a time share stay by my parents, but unfortunately I am not getting great feedback on this property...

Does anyone know the status/features/nature of the Tropicana Resort and Casino?

My fingers are crossed, but I need to know...

Any info would be great!

..........and before that known as the LACABANA VILLAS.

imo the place is financially jinxed.

as LACABANA villas, Lacabana BRC had them in and out of court trying to recoup much $$ that was owed.

currently has been acquired by the ICAHN group out of vegas.

they have high hopes and expectations.

they plan on a renovation.
they plan on constructing what they claim to be the largest fanciest casino in the caribbean.
in the past they have had allegedly corrupt managers, allegedly corrupt timeshare marketing and board members that seem to be interested in only themselves.

so many promises over the last 7 yrs and much disappointment.

it is a fairly large, fairly clean and not updated resort.

much room for improvements.

if you can buy a timeshare at the TROP for under $1500 you may be getting a good deal.

unsure if the TROP management will put out an assessment to its owners $$$

the only for sure about the TROP is that they had reached their LOW point about 18 mos ago and have made significant progress getting out of the hole they were in.

We stayed there for two nights in January. The place is very clean, rooms are large but out dated. You need to walk through the La Cabana to get to the beach, no big deal though. They will need to update the rooms so an assessment is likely and based on what they charged at La Cabana your looking at 5-6k now in my opinion.
