    Question Tropicana Info

So just a few questions about the Tropicana:

    1) Is there a restaurant located in the resort? (I know there's a pizza place, Dunkin Donuts and Baskin & Robbins.) Any actual sit down restaurant?

    2) Do you have to pay extra for using the washing machine and dryer located in the older rooms?

    3) Does it come with everything you need for cooking?

    4) I noticed it had free wifi---> IN the lobby and mentions the pool area. BUT, I read something about buying a card (I think it was $10 for non-stop 24 hour period or $35 for non-stop for the week) and does buying this card allow you to use it IN THE ROOM? My husband owns a business and will have our son running the store while we are gone, but he still has a lot of online sales that he will need to monitor...even on vacation, so we have to have internet access.

    5) Is this place within walking distance to anything...such a restaurants or shopping (like a mall or souvenir places)? I know not to cross the street, but what about on the same side?

    6) I assume you have free parking at Tropicana with your stay?

    7) Is the casino open now? I had read that it was closed for renovation at some point.

    8) I assume there's no kids program or anything here right? I'm not sure that we would even use something like this, but if there's a casino in the building....well, all bets are off for getting rid of the child for a few hours. LOL

Anything else that you can think of that I need to know?

Double Down Sports Bar is in the casino on property. Pizza Bob's is great and has tables.

    2) Do you have to pay extra for using the washing machine and dryer located in the older rooms?

Not all rooms have a washer & dryer

    3) Does it come with everything you need for cooking?

Yes, but they have a very small stove top (2 burners I think)

Yes, the card will allow you to use wifi in the room - $35 per week or $70 for the month

Across the parking lot is LaCabana which has Cinnabon & Carvel in the lobby, as well as Glitz casino and out by the pool they have The Islander Grill, Sbarro pizza & Las Ramblas tapas restaurant. At Paradise Beach Villas next door there is an Italian restaurant & a Peruvian restaurant. At Amsterdam Manor on the other side of Tropicana there are also a few restaurants. Plenty within walking distance

    6) I assume you have free parking at Tropicana with your stay? yes

Nothing yet that I know of, but there are very highly recommended sitters on the island if you choose to use them.

Did you stay in an older room and how did you feel about it? I have seen some pictures on TA that say they are disgusting and had roaches and rusted refrigerators and so on. That kinda scares me. I like the idea of having a washer/dryer. That would be awesome!!! Do you have to pay extra to use it?
The pic's you posted are of the older rooms which I didn't think were not bad. I owned 3 units at the Trop (1 unit for 4 weeks in April, another unit for another week in April which I would rent) and also week 1. The housekeepers do a great job in cleaning the units. Never in all the weeks in 10 years have I seen a cockroach. If there was cockroaches they were brought in by someone staying in the unit. The refrigerators were not rusty.

One of the weeks I owned was in the back building that faced Sasaki highway. You couldn't hear any traffic while in the room. Opening the door going in/out you could hear vehicles flying by. The washer/dryers are in the 1 bedroom condo units and 2 & 3 bedroom units. My units were regular 1 bedroom units didn't have a w/d though there were coin-operated w/d's in each building.

The Tropicana is a very nice property and everyone is so nice there.

Right, but the one I'm thinking about renting does, which is why I asked. I wasn't sure if you need coins or they are just like a regular washer/dryer and thought someone who has stayed in them and had one could answer.

Awesome. That's all I will need. I plan on making breakfast in the mornings before heading out. I require a hot breakfast in the morning and as long as I can cook some eggs for meals/sandwiches and so on, it'll work out perfect.

    using the search feature
    (upper right hand corner)
enter the words babysitter or sitter and see what comes up.

Good to hear the rooms were not bad. As long as it is clean and fits our needs, we are not super picky.

Good to hear you haven't seen any roaches. The pictures are located on TA and some look really bad with holes in the wall, rusted refrigerators, paint pealing, nasty stuff on walls...it just looks bad and there have been several complaints about the "older" parts of this resort. That's what scared me a little...especially when it was mentioned the pics I posted were that of the older part.

Thanks for your input and glad you think the property is nice. I'm feeling more confident about this place.

Thanks. I did go to the site, listed above, and managed to look (and download) all the menu's from the different places they offered. I appreciate it.

I received word back from the person who is renting out some of these rooms.

I'm posting for future reference (in case anyone comes along, after searching, looking for answers).

    1) Every room at this resort faces the pool area. (Which kinda confuses me since someone else that owned 3 of these mentioned a balcony facing the main street??)

    2) Using the washer and dryer cost extra and you purchase tokens at the front desk for $2.00 each. Every load for the washer & dryer will cost 1 token

    3) The kitchenette includes all of the pots/pans/utensils, including dish detergent, paper towels & toilet paper.

    4) Food:
There is one restaurant on property which offers breakfast, lunch & dinner. There is also a wet bar & grille which is open for lunch & daily happy hours too.
Pizza Bobs is located in the center of the resorts courtyard and is open for lunch & dinner.
Baskin Robbins & Dunkin Donuts is located by the front lobby.

    5) WIFI:

The resort offers free wifi in the front lobby & by the pool areas too.
The Aruban government recently selected some of the more popular spots on island with free wifi. one of the areas is Eagle Beach which is your home beach so you will receive free wifi there as well.
Unfortunately there is no free wifi inside the rooms. Prepaid wifi cards can be purchased at the front desk which cost $35.00 per week for unlimited wifi. The prepaid card will provide internet access anywhere in Aruba including your room.
