gaby, you are so right. it can happen anywhere. i am an arubaholic and it certainly didn't change that at all. it truly can and does happen anywhere. fortunately we were not harmed either burglary although our cat ran out the broken door at our home in the bitter cold and died 6 weeks later of a lung problem most likely due to a few hours in 20 degree temps. i'd certainly have given the thieves anything to keep her safe and still have her in our lives.

btw, the police actually returned the passports. they had been discarded by the thieves and were found by a store owner.

As long as you weren't hurt...

After all this reading I'm still torn between Palma real and wacamaya...lol...but I think I'm leaning closer to Palma real or maybe the occidental? I know I just threw in a curveball..sorry, can you imagine what my real life friends must go through with me? Haha...but I have to make a decision by tomorrow as I'm traveling the next 2 months, starting with Brussels on Sunday.

about 5 yrs ago, paul and i looked at a condo at palma real.
it is a nice complex, a good mix of people........arubans, yr round folks, kids, snowbirds and many nationalities.
it is about a 15 minute walk to the palm beach.
there is a nice small pool at palma real.
and if you will be renting a car each unit has at least one parking space.
sadly, paul and i never bought at palma real......but we really considered.

I plan on renting a car for the week too, I guess Palma real it is! Thanks everyone! Side question: if I rent a car and want to not walk to palm beach but drive, where are the best and safest parking spots in that area?

i cannot answer that question about parking at palm beach .......
i can however answer if you want to park at eagle beach.

there is plenty of parking alongside the road all along eagle beach and especially on the side road between lacabana and amsterdam manor.

there is also an area alongside eagle beach right before costa linda that has a good amount of parking.

the parking at palm beach is not as spacious or plentiful for beach goers (plenty for hotel/resort guests though)

eagle beach is my stomping ground. i will let the palm beach goers make comments about parking there.

you will have to bring a chair with you and hope you find some shade . all of the shade huts and lounges in front of the resorts belong to the resorts for their guest's use.

So, I just received an email saying that the internet was disconnected at the apartment and will not be reconnected. The owners are willing to refund me and allow me to cancel or find another place with internet. Back on the hunt for a place now...

    AHHHHHHHHHHHH!

i don't have a laptop so i can't bring my computer with me. but since we stop at the high rise every nite to go to the casinos and walk around, there's an internet cafe that I buy like 3 hours for a nominal price which lasts 5 days, they give you a pin number and you can use it whenever you want until you use up your minutes. they obviously have other plans for longer periods of time and i'll be doing that this time. since i only check my email, i go each nite, stop in and check my email and then i'm done. i'm not about to surf the internet on vacation so that time limit lasts for my whole vacation.

so if you want to stay where you booked, don't let the internet stop you unless you need it for work in which case that's a different story. but if you bring your laptop, most places i've seen have wifi connections. i have enough problems just with a carry on so i have no desire to bring electronic equipment, lol. i don't even bring a camera, lol.....

I'm hoping that I won't have to work but would be nice to have use of google and reserve tours, activities, etc. when I get there. And for some reason, if I'm not "connected" then I feel alone and because I'm going solo this time, I would feel safer - I know, sounds idiotic. Maybe at nights I'll just leave the TV on? lol

    if you re going alone
how bout renting a studio timeshare unit on the beach?

    Aruba Beach Club or Lacabana

I "know" exactly how you feel re: internet.

(traveling with a bunch of friends for a long weekend at the end of the month to a Mississippi Beach and the place we are staying does not have internet.......the shakes and withdrawal have already begun)
