WARNING!!! Villa Makai Repeatedly Burglarized

WARNING!!!

If you are considering renting “Villa Makai” at Bakval 15-I, please note that according to Aruban Police records, this house has been broken into more than 20 times since 2005. This house is advertised on the Internet (Google "Villa Makai") We rented this property from Anneke Gorter of the Malmok Management Company. On December 20, 2008, while we were renting this house, it was broken into and burglarized. We lost over $20,000 in personal property. We were never told before renting this house that it was a constant target for break-ins. For a more detailed report on what happened, go to the Aruba forums at Frommers and TripAdviser and search on "Villa Makai."

Be careful when renting a house in Aruba. Talk with the Aruban Police at phone: 297-587-0009 to make sure you don’t rent one of these “problem” houses.

Very unfortunate. Thankfully no one was physically harmed. Sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately, there has been a rash of break-in's andf home invasions here in our own community in the states. The downturn in the economy speaks volumes. A good reminder for all of us to be cautious when traveling anywhere:

I'm saddened to hear this. I know of other cases in that area of burglary.

As the local paper reported last fall, wouldn't it be nice if the police got out of their air-conditioned stations and actually went on patrol? Yeah, that would be nice, wouldn't it, especially at night, especially at the difficult intersections.

Of course, that would be like working and upholding the oath they make and that may be a problem for some.

I was very saddened to read your post, sorry about your loss and ruined vacation. that being said, I have rented from Anneke for the last four years and found her to be great. Any problems (very few) we have had were fixed with haste, the house and grounds have always been spotless, and she handles our car rentals/dinner reservations for us.

The first time we rented from her she was there to greet us when we arrived and was adamant about setting the alarm; I set it off by mistake once and got a call from the security co. before I could even reset it. If it was an inside job, this would be useless obviously but I believe that she would show some care in who she hires. We have always felt safe and secure.

Fraud in Aruba..Be warned before renting Villa with Anneke G

by allure224 on Sat Jan 06, 2007 9:36 pm
I'd like to leave a trip report. I booked a vacation through Anneke Gorter from The Malmok Management Company N.V.
L. G. Smith Boulevard. #494
Malmok, ARUBA - Dutch Caribbean
Tel/Fax: (297) - 5867569 (Fax after 4pm EST)
Cell: (297) - 7331773
E-Mail: anneke@arubaservices.com

I arrived at Kamay Villa which i booked 6 months in advance. When i arrived to the villa, there was no water, no air conditioning, the house was filled with bugs. The bathrooms, the beds, and the fridge were full of dead insects. The lights on the 2nd floor werent working. When i tried to contact Anneke, she hung the phone up on me constantly. On christmas eve, i had to search for a hotel room to stay in. I have many pics of the home, and I am just warning everyone out there who is thinking of booking a villa to stay away from Anneke...Please contact me with any questions. I will be happy to help.

Kamay Villa - Aruba Fraud

by babs on Mon Nov 12, 2007 4:00 pm
"Kamay Villa is a beautiful property in Aruba. We use to stay at other locations in Aruba, but now return to this property. We have rented homes in various vacation spots in the U.S. and have never been as impressed as we were by the decor, views and luxury of this home! Although Anneke Gorter is no longer the manager of this property, we have never had any problems with her. We rented this home through Misha and Rik. They were extremely helpful, friendly and professional. We look forward to returning and even recommended the home to our friends who have also enjoyed their stays. I have contacted them to have them send their comments in reply to your review of KamayVilla."
