    a1patti,

I see lots of Kindles and other devices on the beach so they must work well around the sand.

Hi Patti, my case has a clear front, so that I can read my Kindle while keeping completely protected. Prior to getting my case, I used a zip lock bag. With that being said, I also saw tons of people with their e-readers in the open, so I really don't think the sand posed a problem. I'm just extra careful.

For protection from sand etc. we are going to purchase. We figure for the money we have invested in all of our kindles, $20 is not much more.

TrendyDigital WaterGuard Plus Waterproof Case with Padding for Kindle 3

"WaterGuard protects against water, dust, dirt, sand and frost"

Okay we received our TrendyDigital packs today and they are going to surely be sand and waterproof. For $20 a good investment towards our more expensive kindle investment.

Here is a demo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2j0UHtgL-Rc At 1:51 into the video they show the protected opening with the double zip closure. Further into the demo they show what happens when the case is dropped in water. We surely do not plan on dropping it into the pool, but sitting poolside, say dangling your legs over the side, you never know when there is going to be an accident or even splashing. It will also be good protection when resting the kindle on your lap with a wet bathing suit. I have trashed numerous books in that fashion.

Here is the submersion test http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2j0UHtgL-Rc

They also make the same case for iPads and Nooks.

When we first opened the package it looked like the plastic was colored, but it is actually the padding inside that is colored.

FWIW, each plastic pack came inside a zippered nylon pouch. Sorry I cannot find a picture.

    Hi Laura,
I'm seriously considering the Nook Color and I'm wondering if you have used it outside. I have read reviews that say it isn't easy to read in the sun-what's your experience?

Jeff, I live in Michigan, need I say more?! LOL
We don't have much sun this time of year and I just got it at Christmas.
I will say, I have read it while sitting in my vehicle and as long as I brightened the screen it was fine. Sunshine with sunglasses on might be a different story. Sorry I can't really tell you what you want to know.
