Was there a veterinary assessment of the dog prior to it being adopted to the States? Given the description of the shape the dog was in, that would be characterized as neglect and, by extension, animal abuse and I think the case would be shut down.

there was not only a veterinary assessment, there was a certificate from the vet stating that the dog was healthy enough to travel.

the dog was given medical atten by the vet in aruba before it was allowed to come to the usa.

Well don't the aruban residents/so called owners have to come to the states to get the dog back? If the dog is in that states, I say too bad. Maybe the Massachusetts Courts can handle the Aruban couple's case like the Aruban courts have handled the home owners cases in Aruba dealing with squatters. And by that time the dog will be too old.

I just saw this on the news and was going to post. Boy you guys are quick! The people who rescued the dog say they're not sending her back. The woman in Aruba refused an interview. From what I understand they found her on the beach and a local Aruba rescue group helped her to adopt. It's really sad. I so wanted to adopt an Aruba pup but my husband wasn't in favor and I ended up going to a breeder. My dog is wonderful but every time I'm in Aruba I see a dog that needs a home. He saw the story and said "See that's whT would have happened to us". Hopefully they work something out.

I cannot tell you how much press this has gotten in the area. We live 3 minutes from this town and the whole place is abuzz.

i say keep the dog here, the so called owner in Aruba didn't take such good care of it if in fact it was hers.
the rescue league had to have done their homework.

I would say as well: keep the dog! It seems the lady in the US provides a loving and caring home, she did everything right in Aruba to inquire there if the dog was lost, cared already for the dog there, removed ticks, looked out for the dog, brought it to the vet, brought it to the local dog rescue, brought it back to the US.

Whereas the supposedly owner in Aruba let the dog run again loose in the streets/breach despite the dog got already badly injured in the past, it's against the law, the dog could have been picked up any minute by animal control and put to sleep, she did not even look for her dog for two weeks!

very strange case.....I say keep the dog as well....funny you see so many dogs on the beach at baby beach, I assume most are strays. We used to save all our food from restaurants and our TS and then when going out took it because we knew we would see strays.....sad to think that way....
If you believe the story that the lady wants her dog back you have to wonder why ???? she has to know the dog is in a better environment....but maybe she feels like we as americans assume we can just do whatever we want and she's ticked about it.....my friend that is Arubian thinks we are rich, so I can see how many misenterperate what they see when they deal with tourists....I always tell my friend that I have to save up for vacations, I just don't go on a whim (mostly not anyways)....so, maybe she thinks they took the dog because they didn't care about her feelings......Just playing devils advocate(don't kill the messenger...)

I don't believe the alleged "owner" is really the owner. Just my opinion.
