Definition of sensory overload; Las Vegas

    Good morning everyone,

Rather continue on my previous thread, I though I'd start a new one to tell you a bit about our trip.

We left Winnipeg on Thursday evening around 9:00pm and arrived in Las Vegas a bit ahead of schedule, at LAS's new terminal 3 which handles all the international flights. We had a quick trip through U.S. Immigration and Customs, then the shuttle over to car rental terminal, picked up our grey Nissan and headed down the strip.

It's 11:00 at night and there are thousands of people everywhere! The sites, the sounds and the crush of people. Like I said, it's sensory overload!! Finally got to Bally's checked in, got the fridge brought to the room, then went downstairs to the casino to check things out.

We were in Las Vegas because it was Donna's birthday. I had booked dinner for us at Emril Lagasse's DelMonico in The Venetian. Simply cannot go to one of Emril's restaurants without starting with the Louisiana BBQ shrimp. Donna followed that with a beautiful filet mignon, while I had a bone-in ribeye, done to perfection.

On Sunday morning we had brunch at Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill. It was in a word, wonderful. Part of our pleasure in LV is eating at celebrity chef's restaurants.

One last dining point, and people here on the bb might appreciate it more than others. Saturday's dinner was at Texas de Brasil. It's in a shopping area called the Town Centre, which is brand-spanking new. It's just beyond the airport and on the opposite side of that highway from both the airport and the Premium Outlet Mall.

Shopping? This is my wife I'm talking about here. Anyone hear of a designer named Michael Kors? Neither had I, up until last Friday. She got herself a Michael Kors handbag at Macy's in the Fashion Show Mall on Friday, then on Saturday, we were cruising the Premium Outlet Mall and what do we spot, but a Michael Kors outlet store with it's own separate outside entrance. Of course she went in and she did very well, to put it politely.

Just in case you were wondering, in that Town Centre area is a wonderful clothing store called Caribbean King. Well, my linen shirt collection did need some refreshing. It wasn't about her shopping, I did some for myself as well.

All in all, we had a wonderful time. We left LV just before midnight Sunday and got back into Winnipeg at about 4:30am. Went through Canada Immigration and Customs pretty quickly, got the limo ride home and in the door. Donna went to bed while I hit the shower, had a bit of breakfast and off to work.

I'll probably be able share more things about last weekend's trip as I think of them.

Next trip to LV? Likely in 3 to 5 years.

    Bye for now,

    Glenn

    Good morning Andrea,

To answer your question "Did you win?", in a word, no. I think Donna lost $3.00. Please don't laugh too hard.

We are not gamblers. Our real pleasures in Las Vegas as well as in Aruba, are dining and shopping, and we did plenty of both last weekend.

Like I said before, whatever your pleasure is, everybody needs a little Vegas every few years. We hope to be back there in 5 years.

Just as an aside Andrea, and this has nothing to do with Las Vegas at all, but our future travels. Last night we were talking to the owner of the condo we stay at in Maui. We are booked for May of next year (4 weeks), and have verbally agreed to a month again in May 2014. We hope to be in Aruba in September 2013. We are looking at Aruba Sunset Beach Studios in Malmok.

    Have a super day.
