Hey Bill! If it's just a little sniffle or something small I still go to work. If I am coughing a lot and feel run down I call in. That's a tough one I agree. If you're sick and show up sick you pass the germs around and other people get sick. I guess you just have to use good judgement which unfortunately doesn't happen a lot.

when i was working as a swim instructor i was REQUIRED to come to work unless i found a substitute to cover lessons and teams.

    it was a nightmare.

finally, as the years progressed and i continually picked up viruses, strep etc from the kids in the pool and then redistributed them to others, i decided to call in sick without having a sub.

one of the smartest things i every did.

I feel your pain Bill! I have quite a few co-workers that come into work deathly ill... Then of course it spreads around the office like the plague...
Whenever we see someone coming into work sick now we label their office or cubicle as the spore and give them a bottle of disinfectant! (and the "I dont have enough sick time" excuse doesnt fly since we all have unlimited sick hours)
The only valid reason to come into work sick would be if you feared for your job... with things the way they are right now everyone's afraid of giving any reason to management to consider them for layoff.

I have the luxury of being able to work from home if I'm sick but prior to getting that I did call in if I was ill...

Nah, what I like are the parents who send their sick kids to school because they don't want to be bothered staying home with them or finding someone else to.

Dh had a 5th grader puke in front of him day before yesterday. Sent off to the nurse the kid has a fever. Sure enough was right back in school less that 24 hours later.

Don't even get me started with that! I can't stand when I drop my daughter off at school (Pre-K) and see the other parents dropping their sick kids off. I just look at them and shake my head and then tell my daughter to try and stay away from that child. Once she gets in the car (anyday after school) the first thing that comes out is the Purell.
