These guys flood the net with these things, costs them next to nothing to send, and all it takes is 1 in a million to respond and get taken to the cleaners to make it a profitable day.

Most spammers do not use regular email hosts, since that would make them easy to trace. The generally have their own servers in some foreign country where a small bribe will get them a high speed connection.
