I would actually prefer for him to go to an Aruba jail and get his butt kicked on a daily basis by some big guy that hates Americans.

He would be in a world of trouble in jail in Aruba. Even criminals don't typically beat women up...

Fine? No way! Its an assualt, car jack and a number of crimes. He should be punished when he gets back to USA and not allowed back to Aruba. Funny how we sometimes fear crime abroad and in this situation we brought the crime abroad.

On my last trip on the way to the airport, I had this lovely female cab driver. She was divorsed with 3 kids of which 2 were in Holland in college and the other in a drug rehab program. She told me how hard she works to make ends meet as a single mom. While driving and talking her son called from Holland and she was very excited. She said she would call him back after she dropped me off at the airport but had to buy a calling card. I paid for the fare, gave her a tip and money to buy a calling card to call her son. I left this out of my trip report but hearing the news about a female cab driver being assaulted, I thought about her. I sure hope it wasn't her..

Please, all my American friends. Don't think you are all looked with disdain because of the acts of a few crazies like this. Every country and culture has them. My advice would be to keep coming to Aruba and just show respect and kindness to your hosts here.........the Aruban people

I agree but it still stinks. I take pride in being a good representative of the US/Boston when I travel, but I do that daily at home as well. The people of Aruba are great, I don't think one act makes us all bad people by any means, but acts like these don't help some of the preconceived notions people have about some Americans.

The guy was high on drugs...the drugs did not make this man violent, the drugs gave this man an "excuse" to be violent- I am reasonably sure he is a useless human on or off drugs. Some people disgust me, and this guy is one of those people.

He asked to go to the Renaissance On the way he started shouting and grabbed her so she stopped He proceeded to beat the living day lights out of her, took her money and took off in the cab, damaging it in the process. The driver has 6 broken ribs, a broken nose and bruising. The guy was arrested and is currently in the KIA Jail. I am told he will appear in court and probably face a stiff fine and deportation.

There is a photo of the driver on the front page of Diario showing her sitting on the pavement with blood flowing from her.

They suspect the the guy who did this was high on drugs.

What at sort of animal would do this. I only wish he would also face the Law back in the US
