We've looked at Turks & Caicos and were surprised to see how cool the weather could be at certain times of the year. Plus it is considerably more expensive then Aruba. For the plus side (from Boston) it's closer; just 3 hours. We won't be traveling for at least another year because of husband's health but I sure do enjoy planning. Right now we think it will be 2 weeks in Aruba. One week at the Divi and one week in the high rise area. After that it will be off to Vegas.

This is just my opinion and my experience. I made the mistake of going to Barbados after my first trip to Aruba. Never again. The "resort" I stayed at was not a resort at all. It was shabby, needed painting, and very cramped. I was constantly bombarded with vendors walking the beach. In fact, one day I pretended to be asleep, and a vendor had the nerve to kick my chair and wake me up to try and sell me something. It was not a relaxing vacation at all. Beaches were not that great, and walking on the beach consisted of pacing the water line in front of the "resort."

The room was another story. I was on the fourth floor, with no elevators. When we arrived at the staircase, the porter asked me if I wanted him to bring my suitcase up the stairs to my room. Really??? It gets better. The room was an adjoining room. The floors were tiled, and there was a good 2" gap underneath the door between the two rooms (yes, just one door). I was woken up every morning around 6-6:30 a.m. by the amorous couple in the adjoining room.

Again, just my opinion and experience.

The weather factor does worry me--- we have spent almost 90 days in Aruba and only had 1 or 2 of those days were actual rain outs. Other islands can be a bit more wet --- but willing to take the chance to see something new! Aruba is predictable - all the resorts are top notch and the weather is pretty constant with a couple exceptions of course.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Darlene. That just bumped Barbados a lot further down the list!

We are not much of cruisers --- but we have done a few and it was nice getting to sample a few Islands on those cruises. Barbados was intersting - but it didnt seem like the type of place I'd spend an extended stay. St. Lucia, Antigua, and St. Maarten were standouts in the Caribean. We have spent a week in St. Maarten and looking forward to St. Lucia now. I will have to squeeze Antigua in now, somewhere in between our usual Aruba trips. I need more money and more vacation time!!!
