Yes, very sad and disturbing news....I just do not understand or comprehend these type of people and why they do these things, for attention? Of course the media will stay on it forever which is also so depressing and seems to give the bad people the coverage they were looking for. I pray for all involved and hope they get the help they need to recover from this especially around the holidays. Seems like we are not safe anywhere these days, malls, schools, movie theaters....say what you will but life was so much simpler when I grew up. I am going to be 52 soon so I am not talking 80 years ago, seems as though life has changed so fast in so many ways and not all for the good. Lets hope for no more sad stories for a while especially this time of year.

There has been increased violence since the 80's... but lets not pretend that there werent school shootings / bombings going back to the early 20th century, most notably University of Texas 1966.

It is a horrible story in CT... very sad. I cant imagine what its like --- my daughter is only one year old and she is the highlight of my life.

KIDS! How could anybody even think of hurting children like that. Even the kids that survived will be scarred for life. So sad. What could possibly push somoeone to do that?

I cannot fathom what goes through a person's mind when they resort to horrific violence against anyone but to target an elementary school and small children just leaves me speechless. Praying for those families who will go home tonight to an empty house and who have to get through the coming holidays without their precious babies. I am also praying for those who were injured, both physically and emotionally. Let's all hug our families a little tighter and a little longer.

It's all crazy.. my DW is a teacher in an elementry school. I cannot fathom someone deliberately hurting/killing little people. Sick... sick.... sick....

We all are already praying for the victem's families, community, first responders and everyone that was affected... and we all were affected in one way or another. Keep the prayers and thoughts going.....

Just watching the news now as I was reading your thread. This type of violence is just so difficult to comprehend. We all need to pray for these poor families.

I think cpjones hit the nail on the head. I am pretty certain we will find that this person was mentally ill. I am not making excuses, however when I was an EMT it often took a judge to "force" someone to be put away where they would not harm others or themselves.

Imho, it is also our societies acceptance of violence. Do not get me going on someone I know who is 7 years old and is permitted by his parents to play xbox games rated M (mature) in the shooter genre with names like Assassin's Creed, Sniper Elite and Hitman. Monkey see monkey do??

Just went to read the news and don't you know, the Associated Press is reporting, "Ryan Lanza [the brother of the shooter] told law enforcement that his brother was believed to suffer from a personality disorder and be "somewhat autistic."

It is a fact that those classified as Autistic can be impulsive as well as aggressive.

And for those who have never been to Newtown, it is everything that the news is portraying it as. A nice small town where anyone would be thrilled to raise their children.
