    Looking out my backdoor

View of the backyard at about 10 a.m. Sunday here in Morris Co. NJ. No power since around noon on Sunday. JCP&L doesn't expect it back until Thursday midnight. Out here I'm all electric so no power, no well, no water, no heat. have 350 gals in Hot Tub for flushing and BBQ for quick food. Just like camping back when I was growing up. Better half is not to pleased. her sister may be having visitors tonight. Lots of tree damage, lots of road closed signs. Not to many utility trucks or local police presence, they can't be at the donut shops since it has no power. Local business is going to take a hit if it lasts till Thursday-Friday.

Our nightmare started on Saturday when we lost power about 2pm called our local power company and they said they would call back in a few hours.Well a woman calls back and asked me if any trees or wires are down....I said to her have you been outside yet its a mess. This is much worse than Irean.Trees and power lines down all over the place. We had a large branch fall but it didn't hit the house. All day Sunday no power so I go outside to get rid of some snow from the driveway and say the next time I go to Home Depot and they have generators i will buy one.I have a chain saw but guess what in runs on electric.Neighbor had a gas one so I cut the tree up and carried it to the curb.Sunday night about 11pm the power came back on only to go out until 1pm.Only half of my town Paramus NJ has power,in one of the lucky ones.

Our Halloween "snow" near Toronto Canada

Okay, I agree with purestone . . . it is not often we get to bask in a better autumn day than our American friends to the south (well, sometmes north too). Here is my photo from Halloween weekend . . .

My son and I were visiting family in Massachusetts and I never really thought this storm would amount to much. I am used to the newspeople hyping it up. Well, boy was I wrong. The power went out around midnight Saturday night and as far as I know, it hasn't come back on at my mom's where we were staying. I went home to CT on Sunday, heat and hot water there! We managed to stay warm during the day with the gas fireplace and the sun was shining so welcomed it in. We drove around the area on Sunday morning and there were SO many trees & limbs down on houses and in roads. All in all we were so very lucky.

All the Dunkin Donuts in the area were insane...America really does run on Dunkin.

We got about six inches in eastern MA, but that's not the important part of the story. Significant number of tree limbs down. Half a million homes without power including me.

We were out Sat. night and had to dodge downed tree limbs on the road to get home.

I'm at my sister's home today using her computer and charging my electronics.

Woke up to a dozen power company trucks outside our condo complex. They say we'll be back up today.

I just got my power back today - I was out a week. Lost it 6 p.m. Sat 10/29 and it came back on at 4:30 a.m. I've lived in CT all my life, and I have never seen a storm like this one.

I'm in Hartford County, CT. We got 12" of snow. I ventured out on Sun, the day after the storm, and most roads were barely passable. Trees and limbs in the road brought down power lines, alternating traffic to dodge them. No traffic lights, no grocery stores, no ATMs, no gas. It was surreal.

We, too, just had our power restored today! Lost it last Saturday, 10/29, at 4:30PM and it was just restored today, 11/5, at 1:00PM. We are fortunate to have a generator which allowed us to "limp along" during the storm. No major damage, but a lot of limbs down. Had about a foot and a half of snow, which now is almost all melted.

Pictures below show three big limbs that fell at the front of our driveway, just missing the truck on the right. Also, there is a picture of our snow covered street with a huge branch that fell in the middle of the road. Plows couldn't even come down the road. Third picture shows the snowladen trees along the other end of our road.
