How long did it take for the Soviet Union to fall.....was it 70 years?

God help my motivated, career-oriented, hard working children.

And now... Universal Coverage, a work of fiction, will become fact.

Matthew 7:13. "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it."

Disgusted as well....add me to the list! And it also pulls at my heart strings to think about your motivated, career-oriented, hard working kids (which was me at their age!) How many more people are they going to have to support with their hard work when everyone else seems to want a free ride? Makes my stomach hurt just thinking about it!

An Interested Canadian

I apologize in advance for my ignorance on this topic I would just like to learn a little more. The only americans I know are ex-pat Canadians. What is the big deal about the health care thing? is it what they want to do or how they want to do it? Being raised in New Zealand and Canada I assume health care is an equal right of all regardless of level of income or status in society. The homeless man on the street should get the same care and attention as the man running the oil company on that same street. In my experience our Canadian system has always worked extremely well for my family. I don't think I know enough about the whole gerfufel to have an opinion so I would like to learn more.

I would just like to know why people are opposed to this for real not what we hear from the american media which like all media is pretty biased.........

Thanks.......

Most people are opposed to it because of the scare tactics we have all been subjected to by those with the power, $$, and will to do so. We have been getting pummeled with rumors of death panels; sky rocketing taxes; and increased deficit.

My opinion is that our health care needed a good kick in the pants and its finally getting it. No it isn't perfect at the outset.. Nothing ever is but it is a stepping off point.
I am happy and very excited that finally someone has the balls to get things done! The middle class has been carrying the burden for way too long!

thanks for making a clear point . I had sorta thought that was going on (or had heard) An understanding I had was that most weren't opposed to reforming the system but were opposed to the proposal that was put forth. I guess my thought always is that if any mother has to look at a sick child and wonder if they can afford to take them to a doctor, then something REALLY needs to be done. Also though as my husband reminds me we pay more taxes in Canada to support our system but in our house we don't mind if it helps the masses (just talking for our house not making a Canadian generalization). Having health care as a "for profit" business gives me the heepe jeepes.
