Arrow How to Pick a Safe Password

It has been a long couple of months. First one of my websites was hacked and infiltrated with a virus. Then a couple of weeks ago one of our laptops, even though it had spyware and anti-virus protection, was pretty badly infected.

Dh is a "computer whiz" and we had to pay someone to fix both problems, so we are talking major headaches here. The laptop virus was just picked up by mousing over an ad on www.petfinder.com but the infected and hacked website was due to a weak password. My bad and I have learned from my mistake.

Here http://wolfram.org/writing/howto/password.html is an excellent article on how to choose passwords and some tips to remember them. I can safely say now I use a 14 character password with some characters and some caps and am very confident it will be a real tough one to crack. Best yet, it is easy to remember.

I have had two acquaintances send me multiple emails this week. Though I do hear from them on occasion, it is never to this extent. The emails were the result of their email accounts being hacked.

Again, please friends, make sure you have complicated passwords which cannot be hacked. Use
some characters, alpha numeric and some caps. An example

    Aru@baF#or%u&m

Also rotate or better yet change passwords from time to time.

One of the best tips I've heard is picking a sentence that is easy to remember and use the first letters. An Edgar Allan Poe fan could go with something like "OuamdwIpwaw", and sometimes adapt it depending on the circumstances (websites that require passwords with both letters and numbers, or passwords that need to be smaller than 10 characters).

    Cheers

That is where I run into trouble. My passwords of choice are 13 characters.
