Kids landing planes at JFK...
I am scratching my head here this a.m. after listening to the news...someone in the air traffic control tower brought their kid to work and let the kid land a few Jet Blu planes....what the heck????? Doesn't give me a lot of confidence at JFK...

I just read the article from the link. It seems as though the pilots and air traffic controllers seriously thought it was ok. I am all for having fun at your job, showing your child what you do for education purposes, but there is a line and they crossed it. ALOT of people could have been hurt if that child said the wrong thing, they are human after all, and the pilot followed as suit. Lets just hope that it wouldn't go that way, and that it won't happen again.
I have flown JetBlue out of JFK the last two Januarys to Aruba...makes you think again who might have been possibly giving out the orders! ![]() Absolutely 100% inexcusable and utterly ridiculous! |

I have to agree, that this was not the "wisest" decision. With JFK having a runway closed, and the Air Controllers having to adjust the aircrafts departing and landing this was a very poor decision. There is a time and a place to have some fun, however being responsible for hundreds of aircraft in the sky coming and going along with the thousands of people in these aircraft, they crossed the line.

In the first place, the airlines have no authority over what goes on in the tower. So, it's not appropriate to query the airlines.
Secondly, having talked to air traffic controllers from time to time while flying, if I heard a child's voice I would be suspicious that some kids had gotten hold of a radio and were transmitting over the same frequency. I would be extremely concerned about the instructions I was receiving. Granted, the professional pilots were in the appropriate location on the field, and the instructions sent were correct for the situation. Nonetheless, a mistake at that point is life threatening. Again, would the adults of the nation please stand up and get control of romper room. Thank you. 44 |
