we were in a restaurant once where a patron called out the chef in public for not serving grouper where it was advertised as grouper on the menu.

the chef went wild.

i found that article surprising!!
thanks for posting.

This is interesting. This from Consumer Reports. At the same time I've heard the same from Boston Globe in Boston, ABC News. Also, on a food forum, members are reporting this has been discovered in cities around the world.

It seems like this same issue is coming up in a number of locations at the same time, almost as if it was a coordinated attack.

I don't think it is "a coordinated attack", merely news outlets such as ABC & Boston Globe doing stories on CR's research results.

That was very interesting! I guess I really know what kind of fish I am eating because I first caught it, then I eat it. You can never eat fish that fresh!!!

I know in Florida 1 time they went in 10 places that was advertising grouper and only 4 out of 10 were grouper. The rest was not. Kent

yup
i have seen it here in fla.

passing off ocean perch as grouper.

in gloucester many years, (30 ) ago i ordered baked sea scallops.
what i was served was something called "cheeks".
my dad, said something to the waitress and then the restaurant owner came out and said yes it was "cheeks".

i have no idea what cheeks were but they were NOT scallops.

i am so sick of lying thieves.

The Globe did their own sampling and testing on a number of Boston area restaurants and supermarkets.

Years ago, some restaurants would serve 'scallops' cut out of skate wing. That didn't last too long.
