    Question New job

Wasn't sure where to put this, but I'm in a quandary.

In short, it's sad when I'm contemplating a new job and the only detail I care to consider is if I'll be offered enough vacation time to get to ARUBA!!

That can't be normal, can it?

I won't take a job if they try to knick me on vacation - I love the companies that say, "That's our policy."

Yeah, okay, and my policy is to spend most of the winter in Aruba so adios.

Before I retired, I was the director of a large production group and interviewed many individuals over the years. You would be surprised at how few people thought to negotiate for vacation time. The few that did were accommodated. Go for it!! Good luck with your negotiations!! A happy employee is a productive employee!!

Thanks all. I think the fact that they called ME gives me a little bargaining power, and I will use it

DH says don't worry about vacation time, we've got two kids in college, we aren't going anywhere. Haha. The first time I show him an awesome airfare and T.S. rental, he'll be the first one to say "book it."

We had a 12 day cruise booked... this company I used to work for wanted to hire me..
Told them I needed two weeks off (in writing).
They did give it to me. Then an old DON came in took over... told me if I didn't have this
in writing she wouldn't have gave it to me.
Well after my cruise I found a better job. lol

Very Normal indeed! I am in the same situation as you are. I had an interview this morning at a wonderful company and I feel it went well. I did not mention my upcoming trip in November. I am hoping to make it to the 2nd round of interviews next week then I will most likely have to bring it up. I've had this scenario more than once and it has always worked out for me (Thank goodness). This time around I really want this job so would have to take the job regardless but still hoping if I am offered it I will be able to keep my trip (fingers crossed on both ends)

I've hired a lot of staff over the last twenty-five years and never revoked an offer because of booked vacation the candidate had in place - I (and good managers) appreciate knowing well in advance any time out of the office so we can plan accordingly.

I'd be more upset if the candidate didn't disclose it during the interview process.

    You'll be fine! Good luck!
