We get PTO (paid time off).... This is our sick days and vacation days combined.
Double pay if you work the holiday but only for the first 8 hrs.. (will try to make that day OT so it's double time and a half)
Every five yrs you earn more... I just made my 5th yr last month. Want to say I get close to 8 weeks off a yrs.
Can look in on the time clock on how many I have left. But once you hit a certain number you can't accumulate anymore.
I use mine all the time, cause if you quit they will pay yo 60% of the PTO.
Rarely call off since I am on a baylor program (work every Fri,, Sat, and Sun.) or I lose my 30& + 7.5% pay increase...
But.. if you don't have the time off you do get some many hours of what they call unpaid time off..

Wow. Reading through these, it seems there are companies out there with generous vacation/sick/PTO. My sister lives in Chicago and works for a finance company. She has 7 vaca time as of this year and says she can't use it all!

I've completed another job app. Basically, same pay, and the advertisement indicated 13.333 hours of vaca accrue per month. That's 4 weeks a year. Don't get me wrong, I'm not just looking for an employer who can give me the most time off. I work hard and get the work done. I agree that well rested employees are happy employees, and I want to enjoy going to work.

Even 5 weeks would be great. Where I am now, I get 18 1/2 days. That's what it is for new hires and that's what it will be for everyone forever. Kind of odd, but it was great when I first started here 20-some years ago.

The interview went well, and it's a nice job I would enjoy. Plus, it's closer to home. However, very crappy perks; only 1 week vaca after a year of service, no paid holidays until after a year of service, no 401k until after FIVE years of service. I'm talking to the HR person today to talk additional vacation time and salary. I'm thinking it would have to be really great for me to leave what I have. Heck, I already have more than 5 days scheduled off the remainder of this year alone

Going to go play the Mega Millions...
Wow...no 401k until after 5 years? Do they match the percentage you'll be putting in at that point?

I could not live without ample vacation time. I always negotiate. I get 7 weeks PTO a year and my husband has 8 weeks (but he's been at his position longer than I have.)

My husband and I both travel for work. It's a love/hate relationship with work travel and it has both pros and cons. One of my husband's "pros": he now knows where to buy Diet Mt. Dew (his caffiene) in all of the major airports he travels to on a regular basis (which terminal, which pop machine, which store, etc.) Cracks me up that he knows this so well. LOL!

I always look at the benefits (vacation, 401k, etc.) as part of my overall salary package. If those things don't pass muster then your "salary", as a whole, is less.

When I worked, I got 5 weeks vacation, 15 sick days, 3 personal days, week at Christmas, week at Thanksgiving plus 12 other holidays. We get a pension and our medicals. I retired at 45 and was able to collect my pension because I had 25 years in. My husband & I got medicals, dental, etc. So that was good because my husband is self employed. Then when we are 65, the medical from my job becomes our supplemental. And it still never was enough! Though I looked at it as combat pay.
