This is Abbey and Mr. Boots:
Abbey Absolute)the tan tabby) was found in a abandoned bldg. by my husband and he brought her home, we were having happy hour deciding a name and were drinking absoute vodka so we picked Abbey Absoulte.
Mr. Boots was a rescue cat who we thought we were getting a spade female, so we were surprised to find out he was a male so we had to put the Mr. in front of his name. He is a diabetic and gets insulin 2'x a day.

    i love the "poodle mixes"

    they are big dogs :-)
Poor Cooper, he didn't know what glass was, he kept running into the patio door!! My husband thought we should get his eyes tested???!!

Friends that came over always thought Lips the fish was a log. The guy that bought my tank said all the fish made the trip to his house. I told him not to tell me if Lips dies. Got him when he was about 4" long in a 20 gal. tank..... he out grew that. I had him trained to come to the top and take his wafer out of my fingers... Cool fish, his name fit him well, as he was on the side of the tank a lot...

oooopps, sorry to go on about a fish!! I do love my dogs!! They are both gentle giants.

The post WAS about PETS right? Fish are out pets too.

Terry your kitties are beautiful. My heart always goes out to special needs kitties and the folks who care for them. I know it is not cheap and unfortunately some take the easy way out .
I know some of us are cat owners, would you mind telling us how you went about getting the diabetes diagnosis and signs we should look for in our cats?

Sure, we noticed that he was drinking a lot of water, I mean a real lot and was alway's hungry. He was constantly urinating and the clumps in the liter were huge. He was also putting on weight. He was on a special food because he had kidney stones and the food was very high in carbs, which is a factor in diabetes (to many carbs). So we did investigating on the internet and found he could have diabetes so took him to vet and low and behold his sugar was sky high. It's very common in male cats to have diabetes, so if your cat is very heavy (14 lbs plus) they have more of a chance of diabetes. He is dong very good now and we check his urine a few times a week, with urine strips. The worst part is when we travel because we have to board him, which breaks my heart he has to be caged for a week or two. It has been hard to find someone that will give him shots 2'xs a day that is why we board him. Abbey gets to stay home with the neighbors coming in to feed her.

Thank you for the info. We have a few boys who fit that profile. Dh will not budge on his stance of "24 hour open buffet" on dry food. They each get a smidgen of wet food twice a day.

Gasper in old age has begun to lose weight. Vet examined him twice. Yeah, I am a nervous "mother" and said he is just fine, nothing wrong physically. Mickey though has packed on the pounds so I will keep an eye on him. We have a water fountain and I am in charge of refilling the reservoir daily so know exactly how much water they go through day to day.

Again, thank you. Mr. Boots is lucky to have found you as his forever home.

Our pets are probably the only good thing about leaving Aruba when vacation time is over. Or at least that is what I tell myself.
