Puerto Rico

Just found a great deal on airfare to Puerto Rico for April for $368 round trip per person. Wondering if anyone has gone to Puerto Rico and has any recommendation on hotels and things to do. Wish I could find airfare that cheap for Aruba.

Thanks for any information.

Honestly Puerto Rico is nice, but compared to Aruba, you will be EXTREMELY disappointed. For hotel info why not check www.tripadvisor.com We have found their hotel reviews to be pretty accurate worldwide.

I found a deal for the Condado Plaza a couple of weeks ago. For the summer, $130/night per room. This did not include food though and like Aruba, being an island, meals though are not going to be cheap. I searched and searched, but could not find where they offered any type of food plans.

Have you ever been on a cruise? Cruise lines are hurting due to the poor US economy and there are some good deals. You would have a floating hotel and well as "food included". Both Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruiselines sail out of San Juan, even in summer. The advantage of sailing out of SJU instead of Miami is that these cruises are able to travel further south. Royal Caribbean's cruise stops in both Aruba and Curacao. Curacao is an excellent port.

Before or after your cruise, take a hotel package through the cruiseline for a couple of nights to do some sightseeing in Puerto Rico: Old San Juan and El Yunque Rainforest are the most notable sights.

Puerto Rico is more tropical, lush, and much busier in terms of the economy than Aruba. At the same time, there is some excellent history to be seen and learned there, not to mention the rum distilleries and such. Worth a visit and while you're there, just take the 1.2 hour jumper down to Aruba to round out your vacation.

Back in February 2005 we stayed at the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino and absolutely loved it. Brought our son who was 15 at the time and he had a ball too. There is so much to do at the hotel, but we also walked all over Old San Juan & did a lot of sight seeing. My favorite was actually the Rain Forest. The views and just walking through it was breath taking.

Try renting a car and driving down to see the telescope at Arecibo. The scenery is drop dead gorgeous and the telescope is way more interesting than one would think.

The rain forest is also a must-do.

We stayed at ESJ Towers, which was okay but there must be better beaches elsewhere.

We loved Puerto Rico nearly as much as Aurba but for entirely different reasons.
