Just went to Jamaica on business 3 weeks ago. I am sure as all places go, there are parts that are safe, beautiful, clean, and friendly. But . . . I can really think of no other place that has all what Aruba has to offer - commercial enough for North American comforts but not overaly commercial . . . friendly people, incredible beaches, reliable weather, great restaurant and lots of variety, safe environment . . . pretty much ANYWHERE on the island. This is what makes Aruba so special and such a gem. It is not perfect and many things are inconvenient (and quite an experience some times) - but's that's what we like and appreciate - so much so that it was an easy place to decide to have a vacation home.

I'm wondering what the differences are in the two sides of the island -- have read that St Maarten is more built-up, more resorts and casinos; St Martin is quieter...????
