We went to Curacao for a 3 day/2 night visit a few years back and "it was alright". Curacao, as stated, is not Aruba! The crime rate is far greater than in Aruba. We stayed one night in a hotel in the downtown area and went to dinner 3 blocks from hotel. It was a lovely place and wonderful food, ambiance, etc. While we walked there during day light, we were told by many NOT to walk back at night. The owner of the restaurant drove us back personally as she said the taxi's would not be happy to drive 3 blocks and she reiterated what we were already told NOT TO WALK AROUND AT NIGHT!

The downtown area is quaint but a fair number of stores were closed. Beaches are not anywhere what we get in Aruba. On our second night we did stay at the Marriott across from the downtown area (and approx 5 minutes away) and the beach was "ok". The taxi's charge extra to go over the Queen Julianna bridge. We enjoyed the Sea Aquarium beach the most.

We took a taxi tour and the actual island is much larger than Aruba but not as developed in the Tourism Industry but they are working on that. There is a lot more poverty in this island than we are used to seeing in Aruba, as well. We had originally planned on staying the full 3 days and leaving in the evening of our 3rd day but changed our flight and left first thing in the morning of our 3rd day.

We had stopped in Curacao on two cruise ships and wanted to see more of the island, which is why we chose to do a "mini trip' but in all honesty, wouldn't necessarily recommend it for more than ONE DAY! Unless the price of the flights have come down ($200 pp) not sure if I would take a whole family over (due to cost factor) but we were on a trip without our kids so we thought this was the time to do it. Curacao is a nice island and was an interesting trip but as everyone else says, not as nice as Aruba.
happiness is going to Aruba with your adult kids because they still want to come with their parents

I did read that there was significantly more crime than Aruba but wasn't aware that it was that bad. From what I gathered, there was a problem with theft and burglary but not so much violent crime.
