    Wedding Gift Amounts

Okay this is a really weird question but i need some help. We are headed to a wedding tomorrow in NH for a friend I work with. Its the first wedding we have been to in YEARS that did not involve family.....how much would you give as a gift? I have asked a couple of people at work and their answers only confused me more, lol. If you feel comfortable posting awesome, if you rather message me...that works as well or you can just ignore my question and that works too

    Thanks!

If they are close friend, two people going, $250. If not, $200 is more than sufficient. In the past, the rule was to cover your dinner. But nowadays with how expensive weddings are, that's not the norm. If its an associate, I give $200 for the both of us. If they are closer $250. Family, of course is different. Though I must say, alot of people say $150 for two people but I go by the $100 per person rule on co-workers/associates. My niece just got married and we gave $500 but she is family

it makes things easier if they are registered.

so if giving a cash gift to people that are not family and not particularly close........i think i would say $150.

i really hate giving cash. is it enough? are folks going call me cheap? is there a perfect amount?

i love it when we can buy something(s) that is on their registry instead.

Amazon gift cards are a great gift too.

I agree with Gaby - $100-$150 per person depending on the venue for a co-worker who's not a super close friend. Backyard party - $100 is more than enough, well known, amazing country club type venue - $150-$200 per may be more appropriate.

Thanks so much for the responses. My wife had an amount yesterday that was less than I thought...several of my coworkers mentioned a similar number and yours are more inline with what I thought. I am unsure how fancy or unfancy the place is we are going, the only thing i know its a buffet with NO open bar, lol. My priorities where finding out about drinks....

no open bar? at a wedding? Def less of a gift as the per person charge is much less. IMO

and google the venue - you should be able to get a really good idea of the place from their website.

No open bar??? Then I would go with $150. If you have to pay for your own drinks, go with $150.

Ditto what others have said - no open bar, I'd go with $150 for both of you.

    Thanks for posting this..
My sister's son is getting married next yr. A very expensive wedding.. ($350,000) open bar (not big drinkers.. maybe one or two)
Her family has the $$$ had an engagement party at the Boston Winery. Open wine/beer and cost $$$..
Now if we go, we have to travel up to Waltham, Ma; miss work (a week for me) rental car; lodging; and etc.
I don't think I will be going.. This is my Aruba trip money. (sorry but two weeks in Aruba vs one wedding).
What should we give for this event if I decide to go or not go. (not close to her son (he is stuck on himself).
