We usually start with $200 and depending on our relationship with the couple we increase from there. I honestly do nto care wha the food is, and I don't worry about a cash bar, my gift is my gift. This works two ways, I am not paying more for a wedding meal that starts at $150 a person because the couple chose a venue that is in that price range, and I do not reduce my gift if the couple has cake and coffee.

I add more if there was no shower, and if the couple is closer to my heart. I stopped worrying about that "cover the plate cost" years ago.

Excellent...... it's about the couple.... not the venue....!

I appreciate all of the help. The final answer will be $200. We typically spend at least $125 out for a local dinner so its not really very much more than a typically dinner.
