Tracy- I am sorta learning about sticking to the program. It does work and tracking is the most important. I learned when I do not track is when I either will have a small gain (like .02) or I do not lose anything at all.

So back to tracking-- write before you bite.

I totally agree, I track all of my calories using My Finess Pal as well as my daily exercise. When I stopped for a couple of weeks due to an injury I saw the difference!

Glad to see this thread pop back up. Started back "being good" a few weeks back. Tracking calories online using Fitday.com. Most of these free online things are about the same. I find that I HAVE to track or mysterious calories sneak into my day. Trying to get to the gym at least 4 times per week. Starting to see some results, but it is slow!! I find that past the big 50 it's harder!! Setting small goals of 5 lbs at a time and not looking any further than that as to not get discouraged. Working at a boarding school for middle school age boys where they feed us makes it tough, but trying to stick to the salad/soup option and stay away from dessert! Holidays coming which could be tough, but have almost 6 months until next trip to Aruba!! One day at a time!!

    Talking

I have lost 76 lbs over the last year and a half. Went from a size 18 to 8. I am almost the weight I was when I got married even though I am actually wearing a smaller size (it is true that sizes have gotten bigger over the years). I started this after learning I was diabetic and realizing I was miserable. My feet were so swollen it was hard to find shoes. When I laid down at night I couldn't breathe. I would break into the most horrible sweat for no reason. My body was toxic. The real epiphany came when I realized I had fought cancer when I was 27 and fought like a wild woman to stay alive and here I was dying from something no less deadly than cancer, obesity.

I started losing the weight by giving up dieting. Sounds crazy right? I had tried all the diets out there and came to realize I was absolutely food obsessed. The mere mention of a diet made me ravenous. I would pig out for days in preparation for "D" day only to lose a few lbs and feel so deprived I would eat myself sick. So I quit worrying about carbs, low fat, low calorie, everything. I just started allowing myself to eat what I wanted and focused on finding out what satisfaction felt like. It took awhile and I would find myself loading up my plate without thinking. I started eating on small plates and got a spoon of everything. If I wanted more I got more. Slowly I became used to feeling okay about eating food and the weight started coming off. It was a huge break through.

Towards the end I have had to focus differently and have been doing what I call "conscious eating". In other words I keep fuel in the tank frequently so when I get hungry I am not ravenous and I can choose food with my brain like a salad instead of with my stomach like a cheeseburger. I still have about 17 lbs to meet what the weight chart says is healthy but my doctor is ecstatic with my progress and with my large frame says I am healthy at this weight and I am no longer diabetic. YIPEE!!!

AhhAruba! You are my new hero!!!! Great job and I hope your words will encourage me starting immediately! I was doing so good this year and have slipped backwards in the last month I am disgusted with myself. I lost my younger sister to cancer one year ago and I know I should not use that as an excuse but have been a little down. So from this minute forward I am going to be strong and positive!!! I have only 34 more days so really need to change things around. I am going to try hard to lose 10 pounds by my Aruba trip and more importantly be positive. If I reach my goal by then great, if not, I eventually will but not during my stay in Aruba (LOL)... Thanks for your encouragement and keep up the great work.

Don't beat yourself up Andrea - this isn't easy! I've lost and gain the same 10 pounds for years! I'm hoping to lose at least that for good this time. It really is harder when you get older. I remember being able to cut out dessert, walk a little and lose weight - not now. All we can do it keep battling - and supporting each other. See you are leaving soon also. Uggg, I have so long to wait - but more times to lose weight - ha!
