Thanks for your report, and I am glad you had a good time. I was waiting to hear from ya. We had thought about going there, but we can't seem to give up Aruba. Did you like the Dutch side better?
Pat

Pat, we loved the Dutch side, but went to the French side almost every day, mainly to go to Orient or Baie Rouge beaches. (the other wife in our group doesn't do sun, so we could hang out at a beach bar for a few hours, while she read, and the rest of us swam and sunned!) Then we'd go back to our condo right on Simpson Bay Beach -- gorgeous water, no beach bars for 2 1/2 miles!
The French side does feel more European, but people seem just a little less friendly (maybe if I spoke French...!), it was more expensive with the Euro exchange rate, and there seemed to be more areas where I felt a little wary, but never unsafe.
Compared to Aruba, we were disappointed in the restaurants!

We never had dinner on the French side -- it was a bit of a drive in the dark - but did have a few expensive lunches there! The euro is now = $1.40.
We did finally find some great spots in Maho and Cupecoy, also Pelican Point.
I think we've just been spoiled by the wonderful restaurants in Aruba!
