I'm here on Long Island, and they say the worst will be Nassau County where we live. Got everything we need, candles, wine, batteries, vodka, gas for the grill in case power will be out for a few days, beer, made plenty of blocks of ice for the cooler. we have food, the cats have food, tonic, the patio furniture willl be taken in tonight. Hope no tree's will fall on the cars. Ready or not Irene is headed our way.

Hope everyone here who is in the path of Irene will be safe.

Wow! Hi Trebor, First time I saw someone from Winthrop MA on the forum. We are 2 houses off of Shore Drive. Love watching the huge waves roll in. Only problem this time is it is a lunar high tide at 11:00 AM & then again PM which is exactly when Irene is passing by. Stocked my sports bar and wife went out and grabbed some food items. Hope we all make it through with little damage and no power outages. Hoping to hunker down and watch the Little League World Series. Hey Pegmeister we live around the corner from Alia. Ever tried Rossettis Cafe on Winthrop beach?

Just saw this on the Weather Channel site...Catastophic? Low, Med, High, Extreme and then a huge jump to Catastophic...sounds more like the end of the world.

I would like to give those of you in NE some suggestions from one who has done this before. We live about 90 miles off of the coast, but have been severely impacted in the past. After Isabel, we lost power for nearly two weeks. Besides the usual stocking up on batteries, flashlights, etc., make sure you fill up your cars with gas. When you lose power, the gas stations can't operate either. Also, fill up your bathtubs. They had to cut off our water for several days because the water treatment plant couldn't function properly. Fill up your coolers with ice. Trust me, they will run out! We did all of our cooking on our gas grill on our deck. Expect to lose a lot of trees. Don't sit in rooms that have trees close by. We had several people die in our area because trees fell into the house when they were sitting in their family rooms. Most importantly, stay inside. Don't go out if you start hearing trees falling, etc. Some people were injured that way, also. Stay safe!!
