We have flown AA for the last 6-7 years from Detroit-Miami-Aruba and then the same return. Always taken the 4 p.m. from Aruba-Miami and then 7:30 to Detroit. AA just canceled the 4 p.m. flight and rebooked us at 8:45 a.m. with a 10 1/2 hour layover in Miami. Called them and could not believe how nice they were. We had paid for the flights and upgraded with miles to 1st class. They reunded the fare, the upgrade fee and all the miles. Only problem now is that I tried to use miles on Delta, but the flights were sold out. The best deal is US Airways. Anyone have any experience with US Air? They go thru Charlston with about 1 hour layover. Does that give enough time to make connecting flight?

They actually go through Charlotte and, yes, the one hour layover is enough time to make your connection. We've taken that flight many times (MSP-CLT-AUA) with the one hour connection and have never had a problem. Charlotte is a nice, small airport - easy and quick to get around in.

We have used that US Air thru Charlotte out of Detroit. Have never had any problems. Keep in mind that US air does charge extra for luggage.
Delta might be another option. Not sure of their luggage charges to Aruba, if any.
