Question AA Upgrade Inquiry

I called AA to question the cost of an upgrade for my outbound Aruba trip. It is our 31st anniversary and I thought if it wasn't too costly I would go for it. Additional cost would be 429.00 p/p. I was ready to go for it but was then told there is a $150 pp "change" fee. I understand about "change" fees, however, it was the same day, same flight. Just asking for a different seat. I asked if the "change" fee could be waived and of course NOT. It would seem to me if you want to upgrade and give the airline more $ they might be a little more flexible. Oh well..

call back and ask for a supervisor.

they are supposed to waive the fee for an upgrade on the same flight/day.

AA has got lots to learn.

The lack of cost is usually for upgrades at the gate or ticket counter is it not?

Andrea is correct. No change fee for saem flight/day. Call back and get someone who knows what they are doing. If not getting anywhere ask for manager.
Good Luck

I will give it another shot. It's just so aggravating hanging on the line forever with these people who don't know what's going on. I wonder if I would be better off taking my chances when I get to the airport. thanks.

re: some of the employees of most any business.
"work ethic or lack thereof"

by the employee telling you, there is a change fee of $XXX and an up charge of $XXX
that pretty much will set the tone for you "not" doing the upgrade".

hence, easier for the employee.

some are lazy
some do not give a rat's bum
some are incompetent

most though are competent and good. the few bad apples spoil the whole bunch.

I have found that if you call three times you get the right answer. first you get one answer, second time a different answer and the third time is the tie breaker....

More often than not, they just default on the side of collecting money. If they do something for free that they shouldn't, they usually get punished in some way. If they collect money when they aren't required to, nothing usually happens to them.
