We remember the days when we had to clear customs in the US at our first point of return. Miami, especially, was crazy! I really don't want to go back to clearing customs in the US. Hopefully, this situation will get resolved soon.

so basically, its both Aruba & the US that are the problem. Here's another one to throw in the mix, lol. if you have your boarding pass and do NOT have to check in luggage, what do you think the new time should be? Can anyone guess for me? Would I then only need 3 hours, lol?????

I said it in the "long lines" post and I'll say it again. Clear Customs in the US. Plain and simple. Arriving 4 hours in advance is like losing almost a day on the island when most of us aren't checked in to our hotel/timeshare till 4:00 on the day of arrival. I've waited almost an hour for a sandwich at Dushi Bagel. I guess the fact that we will wait like sheep for everything on the island has migrated to the airport office. Does the AAA and the ATA talk to each other? Seems someone should have a problem with this other than us visitors.

well......I read all the posts about this 4 hour thing and decided it is a really good thing and here is why..................if all those people that are not used to and love OUR island are mad because of the wait lines and encourage others not to go....then that is better for us, less crowded, better chance to get reservations at your fav restaurant on the fly, less people crowding the beaches, less people shopping at Lings on Monday morning (yeah...), O, I could go on, but I think I have made my point...........Have to look on the bright side to keep from getting frustrated (hope I feel that way coming home on the 27th of this month after a joyous week in paradise).....

That is the number one way to address the issue. Also checking to see if/what flights depart around the same time will help you work around the biggest bottle necks.

I have to agree with Randi. For those of us who are not lucky enough to be able to travel direct with only enough time to get from one gate to next sometimes, clearing customs in the US would never work out. Also, when you live in the Midwest like we do, your choice of flights is quite limited. I believe I had one choice that would get me down in one day and bring me home in one day. There are usually no bargains either but we love traveling to Aruba! So some frustration is worth the week on a beautiful island.

Wow this has me concerned. I really hope I dont have a long wait when I arrive on the Island, part of the reason I take such an early flight is to save the day and not loose it to traveling, same with departing there is no way I want to be at that airport at 8 in the morning for a 12:30 flight that is just ridiculous.

i think that you may be pretty safe as your flight is at 12:30.
3 hrs should be plenty of time for you. maybe even less.

Generally quick thru the airport when arriving. We've been having an arrival Aruba Ariba on Palm Beach within an hour and fifteen of landing! That includes check in and change to swim suits!
