    Airfare Christmas 2014

Looking at airfare for Christmas/New Year for 2014 from Newark/Phili area (prefer to fly out of Newark) and the price is around $1300-$1700 p/p. Is this price high or is that normal for the time of year? I know that no one has a crystal ball to know if the fares will go down so should I pull the trigger or wait to see if the price goes down?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

imo....oh no do not pull the trigger at those prices.......
sign up for kayak or any other airfare watcher

if you have the time, check the fares daily

i would expect that for that time period a fare of about $600 - $800 pp would be the norm.
i would like to be optimistic and say $500.

We booked a ticket the third week in March last year for December 21 - January 2 (this past Christmas) on US Air non-stop out of Philadelphia.

The cheapest coach fares were already sold out. It ended up being cheaper to book a discount first class ticket going down and coach coming back, total cost was $1,096.40. Fares out of Newark for the same dates were more money.

In 2007, booking at the end of April for a stay over Christmas and New Years, fares out of Newark to Aruba were $885.

I just went to United's website and they are only selling tickets through December 25. Thanksgiving week fares on United out of Newark are around $1000 per person.

Be patient --- that price will drop. I got VERY lucky this past year for New Years and scored a $450pp EWR - AUA fare sometime around March. That was the least I ever paid --- the most I ever paid over New Year's week was $990. It's a tough game to play --- you need patience and a strong stomach!

Do not rush...We travel to Aruba atthe same time...weeks 51,52,01...Wait for Jet Blue, they start selling ticks 6 mo prior, and if you can travel from Newark, then you can get a real break in price...Wait, but check them every day...Last year we got our tickets for about $750 non-stop from LGA,

I pulled the trigger yesterday on our family's flights and can say that I can live with the prices.

Delta out of Atlanta had not budged from $885, seats are selling, especially business class and I think it was "fair" considering the various prices we have paid other Christmas seasons.

American out of Miami has fluctuated from $560 to $620 to $660. Yesterday when it went from $660 to $560 I grabbed it. Well worth it since I wanted the early flight from Miami and late flight out of Aruba for my Dad. For $80 I booked him into their new "Main Cabin Extra". Not only will he have extra room, but he won't have to walk to row 30 something even though he requests a wheelchair to the gate. What is UP with that? Whenever he has flown Delta he has been put in the front of coach at no extra charge.

Found my brother a ticket on Delta from Newark through Atlanta for $869 in business class from ATL - AUA and AUA- ATL. Time spent travel is a difference of about 9 hours vs. 5 hours but he lives a bit closer to Newark so it would actually be less. Not bad considering US Air is $999 non-stop from Philadelphia in Coach. I assume they are still charging $25 each way for luggage. For a two week trip including Christmas presents, a carry-on just doesn't cut it.
