Thanks, Andy. Great points. We did notice at Playa Linda this year the relationships between the fixed week owners who have become lifelong friends. It seems like a special bond.

At least one of our travel days is on a weekend usually.
Not sure when, but we will be back

I guess that you just pay higher premium for a flight...or try to monitor it during the year... If you don't mind to travel with one stop, then you can get significant saving...bUT- IF MONEY IS NOT AN OBJECT- JUST PAY IT...Most likely for weeks 51,52 you are looking at $750-1200, depends how lucky you are

We opted to not buy fixed week timeshare units beginning back in 1989 due to a number of reasons.

    1. we figured our family would be changing, and it did; before kids we could go whenever we wanted, when the kids were in school and involved in various sports and activities, we never knew when we would be able to take a vacation. Yes, weeks can be traded, but sometimes we did go midweek

    2. we were worried about yearly maintenance fees; you never know when you're going to have that year that the fridge breaks, you need a new car, the house needs a roof.

    3. if someone travels for work (like my DH) and uses a reward program (we use Hol Inn) a week's stay could be very low cost, or no cost at all

Like Andy said, you will forge friendships if you visit the same place every year. We found this out last April when we rented a Playa Linda suite from someone and we kind of felt like outsiders because the yearlies knew each other.

My husband shares your concern about rising maintenance fees.

We had a similar outsider feeling at Playa Linda but by the end of the week we were talking to most of the people around us in the beach.

Prices go up for just about everything over time. If the place is well managed, there shouldn't be any big surprises.

Flexibility is the key when it come to airfare. I was looking to go in May and the jet blue airfare is at $580 round trip including the luggage fee. For end of june the airfare is $445 round trip including luggage. I'm still waiting on an Interval Exchange Request for June. Which I had a confirmation so I could take advantage of the airfare.

Hello there! We have fixed weeks 51,52 for over 20 years, and air fare is always different, and you really have to be watching ...and be ready to buy your tickets at any given moments...couple years ago I've got our tickets , when we were in the restaurant, and something just "pushed" me to check Expedia... and we got tickets for $ 675...from Dec17- Jan4.... and I did check a couple of hours later....$$$ was not even close to it...couple hundreds higher...
