We are traveling a direct flight from JFK to Aruba... about 4 and a half hours... not bad and so happy we don't have to deal with any layovers!!

Check your flight on a daily basis. My American Airlines direct flight from Boston was cancelled along with 15 family members without notice. We were all put on different flights with stops. Our 4 1/2 hour flight turned into almost 13 at the same cost. I didn't realize flights could be switched without notice.

The time of hubby's flight was changed last April on AA (1 went 2 weeks ahead on Continental), and they never got in touch with us. I only found out my when I went online to change his seat. AA is notorious for changing times and connecting airports. Since you are non-stop you should be o.k. But do keep checking - especially right before your flight - to see if they changed your departure time.

Thanks for the advice, we have been checking every day due to all the bad reports I have been hearing about AA and canceling flights. So far So good!

Tag your luggage carefully, also put inside your luggage your destination. My relative's luggage went missing for 2 days on a direct flight on American out of Boston. I know you're leaving out of NY, but take the same precautions !!! Have a great time.

Never thought of that.. I'll have to print out some "Destination Aruba" signs to put in our bags. At least we carry on an outfit each and a bathing suite each, plus all our wedding stuff and my dress which they will hopefully be nice enough to hang up in a closet for me.

While we are discussing "packing tips" and lost luggage...assuming you will have more than just one suitcase, mix up "his and hers" clothing between the 2. This way if one bag gets lost, one of you will not be totally "clothes-less". Half of your clothes is better than no clothes at all.

I just emailed AA yesterday. Last year, our nonstop flight time changed 3 times from the time we booked until the time we left - I never received a notice via email, but found out from friends who had seen the change online.

When AA emailed me back yesterday, they said they only let people know of a time change 2-3 weeks prior to departure. They're full of it - they've never advised me in the past. When I booked our nonstop flight to Aruba for March of 08, we were leaving at 9:00 a.m. Yesterday after being on the AA site, I noticed it's been pushed up to 10:10 a.m. I guarantee that by the time March rolls around, we'll be leaving at 7:00 a.m.

where to buy a bathing suit in aruba

Just a bit off subject. Where in Aruba could you buy a bathing suit besides the Mariott if your luggage did get lost? I could manage without any other things but my bathing suit yikes!
