For anyone who has found that they have been given a "schedule change" by AA we had the same issue recently. I booked a flight, comparable to flight times that we usually have on UA, back July 2007 for T/S week on March 15, 2008. While booking a rental car last month I noticed that we were switched to a flight that left IAD early in the morning and arrived at 9:50 PM that evening (12 1/2 hrs in lieu of 6 hrs). The return trip was scheduled early (7:05 AM) and arriving late evening.
I Contacted AA and inquired as to the reason behind the flight changes and was offered another flight with very similar times to my original flight. We were not charged for this change, and even noticed that the "new" flight was approximately $300 more than what was originally booked. As a result of this, I am very happy with the way we were treated by AA. Anyone with the same concerns should call and inquire about why the change(s) was made, and why they were not notified of the change(s). It is also good to check online beforehand for a similar flight to the one that was cancelled/changed earlier by AA. That way you can "offer" a change to the agent on the phone...
Also, in response to the "clothing" inquirey...LaLinda's is a good spot for clothing to replace lost/delayed baggage. Went through the delayed suitcae issue last year and had to purchase a week of clothing due to UA sending my suitcase to Miami instead of Aruba. The suitcase did finally arrive, the day after we departed. Believe it or not, I can now pack a week in Aruba in a packpack...
