This happened to a friend of ours with AA, same $400 offer two years ago. They went back to our Aruba following year for free too.

I am the same with flights, I wait for the first day and grab the cheap flights! It makes a huge difference when buying multiple flights.
happiness is going to Aruba with your adult kids because they still want to come with their parents

I arrive jan 2nd, flying AA, gotta little nervous until reading full post.

Nov 22 my connection was charlotte on AA, they asked for volunteers, believe the offer was well above 400.00.
I didn't pay attention since I was attending a funeral, returning 2 days later..

Yes, I hear they offer better deals when u are at the airport. Cool arubaLisa, when we are sitting in Miami I will post on this site and maybe we can say hi. I will be w wife and 2 kids. It does feel like a lottery or casino win! To early to book our next trip, but I am ready.

I guess I don't understand how airlines overbook. Would they save money if they booked the proper amount of people for the number of seats they have on a plane??? Then they wouldn't have to offer money to passengers to get them to move (although, it's a great benefit to passengers). Could fairs go down if the airlines properly booked to begin with?

I'm not knowledgeable on the inner workings of airlines so I may be making this a bit too simplistic.

    Enjoy your windfall
