Secretary here at work who makes many flight reservations says that the best time to get "deals" is on Wednesday nights, and early Thursday mornings. Im going to give it a shot and see if the price drops at all, otherwise Im just going to buy it at $550 and wait till my flight leaves!
It's always best to buy midweek - the fares always go up on the weekend.

I'm with you - I like getting a deal, too! But once you buy, don't look at fares anymore.

Right now fares from Atlanta on Delta are $706.70 through August and then drop down to a "sale" fare $356.70 for September and then back to $706.70 in October and onward. At this time, that is the only month during which they are on sale. The same sale does not apply to Denver.

If you want a "deal" then definitely DO take your chances.

If the fare does not go down, and you end up having to pay more, well then consider it like a loss at the casino.

If you are not willing to take a "loss" then pay the $558 and know you paid a reasonable fare. The $558 is the lowest discounted (non-refundable) fare for the next 330 days.

Your best hope is that Jet Blue (to AUA via JFK) or American (to AUA via Miami) offer a sale fare and you either fly with them or Delta matches.

    More food for thought

"Now, the bottom end of the airfare price range depends dramatically on the following variables, and they are listed in order of importance:

    •Competition on Route
    •Seat Demand
    •Distance of Route
    •Seat Supply
    •Fuel Prices"

Basically the same is true for a direct from Newark to AUA on Continental...about $700 r/t thru the summer and then $358 r/t in September.

Back in February R/T EWR - AUA on Continental was under $400 all through the summer. Prices have been rising slowly. I need to book my October trip soon - those prices always start rising mid-summer.

We bought our tix back in Feb. from Newark to AUA for July 5-12 for $348 r/t and then used some miles to upgrade so we are flying 1st class this time. Our rule of thumb is buy the tix when you see a price you think is good...and then stop looking as the price will fluctuate all over the place and frustrate us. Not as risky as the casinos in Aruba, but it is definitely a game. I applaud those who have the time and patience to play the waiting game but we like to book it and start thinking about restaurants and mojitos.

I just purchased my flight, total $595, I got the trip protection for $37 just in case.
I bought it through Orbitz, so maybe I might get a check if someone books it cheaper....Im having my doubts though! lol

Isn't it a relief once you get it booked?!

How soon before can you book airline tickets anyway? Like if we are going in March, when can I book?
