Last time we flew EWR - AUA on Continental in June... it was a Sunday and we got to the airport 2 hrs before flight time and just made it to the gate as boarding was beginning.

That was the most chaotic the airport ever was.

Last week we flew Continental to Cabo on a Sunday and breezed through the airport without a hitch... of course that morning we got the the airport 3 hours early!

that's the problem with the continental hub at newark. i make my husband go 3 hours early, and we spend two hours waiting to board. then we go 2 hours early and we have about 20 minutes before boarding (though they do board half hour earlier) so i guess in reality we do have about 50 minutes. its that you just don't know. i prefer to be early and have gone through security and if i have to wait, i wait. my husband wants to get there at the last possible second. thank goodness, i arrange the ride to the airport, even though its his son that takes us, but i give him the time and he's there that time and takes us so my husband has no choice.

I look at it this way, you can never be too early for a flight, but you can easily be too late.

Especially when there is only one non-stop flight per day.

I am now looking at Continental from Newark at a great deal of savings.
There is ONLY one non stop flight and the rest are connect.
with 2 stop lay overs and not arriving until Monday (the next day at 3pm)

Do these early morning flights sometimes get cancelled and I have to take the next available flight.??

Although saving a few hundred dollars- if that happens the money saved vs time wasted would all be a wash.

    Would you take a chance?

We have been taking the Continental direct flight from Newark for years which leaves around 8:30am and gets into Aruba 1:00 pm. We have never been cancelled-although weather events can happenn to any flight-and we are usually about 15-30 minutes early. This year we were on the beach at the Surf Club before 3pm . It's a terrific flight and is the same plane that is the return flight so t is unlikely to be cancelled. We have taken the flight on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday and always had a good experience. We are booked on it in July and paid $460 RT each incl. taxes and fees-a great price for a direct 4 hour flight.

we always fly continental's first flight of the day to our destination no matter where we go. it usually leaves on time, except of course like jeff said about the weather but you still have a better shot cause if there is a back up, you're first to go. we are taking the wednesday flight to aruba in december, it leaves at 9:00am and we arrive in aruba at 2:20.

We aways fly out of Newark also, first flight of the day. We are leaving in January and the flight leaves ~9am, arriving ~2:30 in AUA. We would depart AUA at 4:30pm and arrive back around 7:40pm.

that sounds like our flights. though they changed our 4:30 flight out of aruba to 3:25 and that's weird, we now get in at 7:20. we leave almost an hour earlier than planned and get in almost the same time. that's just to cover their butts for on-time flight stats. they take into account delays and then this way when you get in at that time they say see, we were on time. and if you get in earlier they are wow, we are great, you got in earlier.

i don't care, i just want to go. 4 weeks from today I will have landed and gotten my car and should be at the apartment (if we don't get lost). i told my husband he needs to find the route from our apartment to lings so we can stock up on food, lol......
