Delta to add Carribean flights

Delta to add Carribean flights
Atlanta Business Chronicle - by J. Scott Trubey Staff Writer

Delta Air Lines Inc. announced Tuesday it plans to add flights from Atlanta to seven existing Caribbean routes starting in December.

On Dec. 20, Atlanta-based Delta (NYSE: DAL) will add a second daily flight to Aruba; a second Saturday flight to George Town, Cayman Islands; a third daily flight to Montego Bay, Jamaica; a second Saturday flight to Turks and Caicos; a second daily flight to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; four weekly flights to St. Thomas; and a second Saturday flight to St. Maarten.

Starting Dec. 18, the carrier will add four weekly flights to St. Thomas. All routes will be nonstop from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Delta said.

“The Caribbean is a perennial favorite spot for tourists during the winter months, and Delta is making it easier and more convenient for customers to reach their preferred beach destination,” said Miguel Lopez, regional director of Sales for Central America and the Caribbean for Delta.

These flights are among many new routes Delta has announced for the winter.
Pending foreign governmental approval, in December, Delta starts year-round daily service between Atlanta and Tegucigalpa, Honduras Dec. 18; New York and Buenos Aires, Argentina on Dec. 19; New York and Bonaire Dec. 20, and Atlanta and Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic Dec. 20.

In addition to its planned merger with Eagan, Minn.-based Northwest Airlines (NYSE: NWA), Delta has pegged much of its economic recovery efforts on increasing lucrative international service by 14 percent, coupled with strategic cuts to domestic service.
In July, Delta posted a net loss of $1 billion and a loss per share of $2.64 on $5.5 billion in revenue for the second quarter. The loss included a 115 percent jump in fuel costs and a $1.1 billion charge for goodwill impairment.

Good thinking ...

April 3 - April 11 on DL = $1283 pp or $850 on US Air

Looks like DL's 2 flights daily end the end of March.

With those prices maybe we could pitch a tent on your balcony ...Oops, forgot, dh doesn't "do" camping.

Anyone cruised with Carnival? Dh wouldn't mind doing a cruise for a change of pace. He is not the one who does the packing for them and all of the ironing upon return. Dd doesn't care where she goes 'cause everywhere is an adventure.

i'm sorry to say, but anything out of ATL to AUA with delta will always be astronomically high! monopolistic advantage.
