This is good news for us NY Metro folks. I read an article yesterday in the Star Ledger (NJ newspaper) about how the Continental-United merger now gives them control over 71% of the Newark flights! Not surprisingly, United has started to increase fares on many routes and the story was how people are saving big bucks by flying out of JFK-even with the higher cab fare or the extra 45 minutes it takes to get there from Newark.

Thank you Delta for creating some competition.

I'm surprised that is so early, I would think that they would want at least some connection opportunities to make sure the flight is full without cutting fares.

EWR - LAS is increased significantly. I used to be able to get to Vegas for under $300 - most flights are over $400 now.

I know this is getting off topic a bit (sorry Andrea ) but we flew to Italy last fall from JFK instead of Newark and saved about $300 per person. The cab fare was double but it was well worth it as we still came out well ahead. I feared that the Continental-United merger would adversely impact Newark fares and I hate to see it happening since Newark airport is 20 minutes from our house.

I read today that Delta's new daily JFK flights to Aruba are a "shot across the bow" of Jet Blue.

Fantastic news for everyone in the NY metro area

Delta has been advertising their addition of their new routes extensively on the radio. Seems like everytime I'm in the car I hear one. Competition can only be a good thing for us flying out of the NY Metro area and I hope Jet Blue and United respond.

Fare wars usually don't last long and end up with at least one party reducing flights. Then fares go up again. Fortunately, I haven't seen prices that indicate Delta is going to try and use their size to bleed JetBlue dry on competing routes by offering unprofitable prices.
