Thumbs up FAA to Allow Airlines to Expand Use of Personal Electronics

FAA to Allow Airlines to Expand Use of Personal Electronics

"...Passengers will eventually be able to read e-books, play games, and watch videos on their devices during all phases of flight, with very limited exceptions. Electronic items, books and magazines, must be held or put in the seat back pocket during the actual takeoff and landing roll. Cell phones should be in airplane mode or with cellular service disabled – i.e., no signal bars displayed—and cannot be used for voice communications based on FCC regulations that prohibit any airborne calls using cell phones. If your air carrier provides Wi-Fi service during flight, you may use those services. You can also continue to use short-range Bluetooth accessories, like wireless keyboards. ..."

Our local news is reporting that Delta will begin allowing PED's starting tomorrow.

I am curious though how many people will interpret this as meaning that they can TALK on their cell phones. I really don't want to have to hear other people's conversations.

I was thinking the same thing Lisa. I hope talking is never allowed. People just don't understand that just because you can talk, doesn't mean you should.
Not sure when, but we will be back

Yes, the last thing I want to hear is some bigshot who thinks he's so important that everyone needs to hear his conversation. On the other hand, I can rest assured that now when I don't power my Kindle down (I usually never did when instructed by the F/As), the plane really will not crash.

Cool...although I never really had a problem shutting my phone off and leaving it off. Because of my job my phone is never off unless I am flying so that is the only time I truly have peace and quiet....
But, I am glad I don't have to shut off the kindle (I have to old one that is just a reader)....

All you JetBlue fans see their email this morning? They started allowing gate-to-gate electronics on Friday 11/1!
