American is dropping non stop flights from JFK to Aruba starting in December. The change should be effective on Friday.
i have come to the conclusion that we are in "airline hell".
although it is so easy to feel badly for myself and inconveniences and high airfares...............i REALLY sympathize with the canadians. their pricing is astronomical and the taxes are obscene.
We're not too happy with Delta here in Minneapolis right now. Oh, their flights are fine but....they're taking MORE jobs from our state since their purchase of Northwest Airlines in 2008 but they will have to pay the State of MN a hefty fine for doing so - but still, the job loss is not good. It's nice that they still want our people but uprooting families is probably not what these long-time employees bargained for.
Delta Air Lines Inc. is gettinga bipartisan drubbing from Minnesota political leaders over its decision to move hundreds of jobs to Georgia.
The Star Tribune talked with U.S. Rep. John Kline, R-Minn., U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, DFL-Minn., and Democrat Gov. Mark Dayton, all of whom voiced displeasure with Delta. The airline had promised to keep training jobs in Minnesota when it bought Northwest Airlines in 2008, but this week said it would move those operations to Georgia.
Officials at Atlanta-based Delta say the move was needed due to higher oil prices, though those costs are still lower than they were in 2008.
As the Business Journal reported yesterday, Delta's move means that it will have to repay a $175 million loan it still owes the state. Once that happens, the state will have even less leverage over local Delta operations.
Delta Air Lines Inc. is announcing plans to consolidate some operations now in Minneapolis to Atlanta, but will offer jobs to everyone in Minnesota who is willing to relocate.
In a letter to employees on Tuesday, CEO Richard Anderson says the moves will save money as fuel prices have risen sharply this year.
Delta plans to move training centers for flight attendants and pilots in Minneapolis to Atlanta. The company also plans to move engineering and technical support teams from Minneapolis to Atlanta.
Anderson says that while the company no longer needs the buildings in Minneapolis, it does need the people who staffed them.
He says he expects the process to finish next year.
Delta is based in Atlanta. It bought Minnesota-based Northwest Airlines in 2008.

33rd trip to Aruba - May 2016
San Fran/Napa Valley - Sept. 2016
Barcelona, Mallorca, and Andorra - Nov. 2016
If you booked on 679 or 796 after Nov 12. Check your reservations, you will notice that it has been changed. Even high time flights are cancelled. What a shame.
Are you kidding???? Everytime I fly AA to aruba nonstop, the plane has been basically full!!! What the heck are they thinking??? Just something else to piss off the eonomy, damn...... Whats next?????
AA is pretty much a minor league player these days re: aruba. it is a shame that AA allowed jet blue to walk right in and be the bmoc.
we are using the last of our miles for our august trip and got a great rate on aa for our dec trip. the aa credit card is no longer used.
aa, never even fought back with the aruba routes.

AA once owned the whole Caribbean from ever city east of the Mississippi. The king has fallen.
@LaCabanaGirl --- The planes can be full, but if the revenue is less than the costs to operate they will cancel flights every time.
@Amy --- Sad to read Delta's decisions. MSP has never been a cheap airport but back in the NWO days it was easier to stomach when you knew all the local jobs they brought. IMHO Delta & ATL are both the poster children of air travel hell.
Aruba where the toughest question each day is "where to dine tonight".
