I got an email from United (I hate calling them United... Continitental one pass member since 1987!!!) saying that my JFK - AUA flight in December had been cancelled and I was re-routed through EWR.
The problem with this was - I was still flying back into JFK.
I called United to figure out what they could do....
1) I got my return flight changed to a direct flight back to EWR which worked out better because I originally had a connection and flying into JFK which is much further away from my home compared to EWR.
2) I get a little bonus time on the beach because I now have an earlier flight leaving NJ and a later flight returning home.
3) Best of all - the prices dropped significanly and I was able to convince the airline that since they had waived the change fee becuase of their schedule change, that they should refund me the difference. I got over $300 back. Which is pretty amazing being that this is over New Years.... my flights are now under $450 a ticket for New Years week. 2 years ago we paid over $1000 a ticket for the same time period!!!!
Just had to share!!!
