    Home airport choices

    Do you have airport options?

Here in Tampa Bay area, when we fly to Aruba we can fly nonstop to Aruba from Orlando International (40 miles from my house) or from Tampa international , not non stop, (about 30 miles from my house) and Sanford, not nonstop, about 60 miles from my house.

I have no right to complain about my airport options.

Are you folks lucky or slightly or greatly inconvenienced by your airport choices?

Every time I think about complaining, I think about a friend who moved from Weston, Ma to British Columbia.
She and her husband have the saying "we can't get there from here".

We have one choice. I have considered driving up to six hours away, but at the end of the day, our prices from the home airport are usually much cheaper, but with a connection. Go figure...

I'm very lucky to have 3 fairly close airports. Newark is 20 miles away, LaGuardia about 24 miles & JFK about 34 miles. Of course LGA & JFK both have higher travel expenses - tolls, bridges, etc. where EWR is only the gas to get there. JFK almost always has the least expensive flight prices.

Boston Logan is our only real option. jetBlue non-stop with a reasonable fare. Could probably us TF Green in Providence... but no non-stops. I'm good with what we have....!

For me it's Piarco International Airport in T&T, with a connection through Hato International Airport of Curacao before flying onto Aruba. After my last trip I found out a bit more about Copa Airlines which has service from Toucmen International Panama to Trinidad and Tobago, and back, along with flight direct to Aruba from Panama. So I have another option, however the price is a bit steep. Granted if I were to connect through Panama I would get into Aruba by 3:00 pm for the latest, then again, the price. Maybe one of these trips I will make the connecting trip through Panama. Still hoping for a direct flight between T&T and Aruba.

Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport (just 10 minutes from our house so an easy taxi ride to/from). We have several options to Aruba from MSP - Delta, United, American, and Sun Country. All have a layover except Sun Country which starts non-stop service in Dec. We always use Delta though since we're the second largest Delta hub and all of our work and vacation travel is on Delta and we're Delta Medallion members (usually free upgrades to first class) - and like to get the Delta miles to Aruba to use for trips to Europe. Delta has always been great for us.

I live in Stuart Florida, located about 30 miles north of West Palm Beach. I must drive the 100 miles to Miami Airport for a non-stop flight to Aruba! I understand that Jetblue flies out of Ft. Lauderdale (which is ONLY 75 miles south of me) but NOT on Sundays, which is when my timeshare starts. My flight from Miami to Aruba is only 2 1/2 hours but I pay the same, and sometimes even more, than my friend who flies from JFK NY to Aruba, sometimes stopping in Miami. We in South Florida are a captive audience...supply and demand. I still think it's worth it and I would never stop coming to Aruba because of the air travel problems!

Like Chuck we just use Boston to visit Aruba. We will use fly out of Providence if we can get a direct instead of going into Boston for flights to anyplace but Aruba.

Another one for Logan. We usually stay the night before at the Hilton for a stress free arrival the next day. I really miss our ferry to the airport though. We used to be able to hop on a commuter boat for a ride over without any traffic! Sadly, it was discontinued when their dock got damaged.
